1453388 2018-09-07 00:49:00 As the title says.

I cut a small tree from my backyard. Now, how do I prevent it from sprouting back?

Some Youtube suggested to drill several holes and put some Epsom salt and cover it up.

Any good suggestions other than the above?

Where can I buy Epsom salt 'cheaply'?

Will weed killer help?

Cheers

But that's rubbish.

Use a gel poison to blob onto the stump. If you do see it sprout (trees are hard to kill) rip them off, eventually it gives up.

I used it in some cracks in my concrete path and nothing has grown there since :)

The couple of trees I've removed haven't been an issue so not all trees are hard to kill. I did drill some holes and cut some slots and pour a jar of stump rot into the stumps, but only after I was happy they were already dead.

1453393 2018-09-07 03:09:00 Copper sulfate. Or sulphate - I forget.

The copper will generate a small electrical charge that is supposed to stunt any regrowth. Maybe. Or it's just the bad coppery taste in it's mouth.

I cut down 4 cottonwood (all faux cotton-spewing female) trees and they constantly send up 'volunteers' that try to establish and continue new growth from old roots.

I like to get them angry by mowing them down all the time - and I giggle every time I do.

I cannot say I would actually use the copper sulphate/sulfate - since I enjoy it's misery too much.

I hate cottonwoods!

Just use the Vigilant gel.

Yeah. Quick as. I think in the USA they set stumps on fire. I removed 2 large stumps using my chainsaw, mini sledge hammer and large chisels. Basically cut, grind, chop, split, lever, out sections. Over several weeks.

There - I fixed it for you.

We do set stumps on fire - with lots of AG-Red diesel fuel (gasoline is too expensive) and some old engine oil to keep it burning a long time.
