| 1451069 | 2018-06-30 08:53:00 | Do these work? Meaning not the ones with a box in the cable. Someone asked me if I had one and I don't. Got me thinking. With my 2009 PCI-X video card by ASUS they provided a DVI to VGA for me - it worked for me. DVI is digital and VGA is analogue I know. Is this because the video card is doing the conversion? I was using a computer monitor. Or would a computer monitor be different to a HDMI TV? Cheers. |

| 1451072 | 2018-06-30 10:24:00 | You need the box, that's the convertor, the HDMI cord is just a short extension to make it easier to connect but it could have been directly off the box too. It states 'with sound' but I don't see how that is possible as VGA doesn't have sound and I see no mini/audio jack output on it. So that is questionable. | Kame (312) | ||

Many DVI connectors are DVI-I which includes an analogue connection compatible with older VGA standards so your "adapter" was only converting the connector as the video card already had the output available on the DVI-I connector. | 1451078 | 2018-07-01 03:20:00 | I once tried to connect an older monitor (non-HDCP) with a DVI input, to a Blu-ray DVD player. With the appropriate HDMI to DVI cable. But it didn't work. I gather the DVD player will not output anything on its HDMI connector unless it senses an HDCP capable monitor. Does this $48 device we are discussing have the HDCP capability, do you think? |
