1450831 2018-06-21 23:44:00 Got SWMBO a new laptop. Asus VivoBook X404U
Can't get the Smart Gesture to work for the touchpad.

Have updated the appropriate drivers & reinstalled the software, but still no go.

Anyone else been down this road?

1450832 2018-06-22 00:29:00 Its not the answer you want but...

Asus (and others) are bloated with crapware.
I allways just uninstall the lot .

So, I would just uninstall it regardless (and I do on new notebooks) . It didnt work anyway
And uninstall all the other bloatware pre-loaded on the machine . :)

Also make sure it hasnt got a trial of Norton or McAfee . That tends to just stop working/updating when the 30day trial is over, leaving you with no AV

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First is to uninstall/reinstall the Touchpad driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Touchpad driver.
- Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver from ASUS.
- dlcdnet.asus.com
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.

Did you Download newest version ?

also, make a note of what build ver Win10 is. If its an old build, its better to update it now than later
Some ~new~ laptops come with quite an old build of Win10
run Winver . You want 1709 or 1803 .

1450835 2018-06-22 01:09:00 Thanks guys, already been there & done that & all is up to date.
Have also sent an email to Asus but haven't heard back yet.

I removed all the bloatware & trial programs before handing it over.

Wouldn't be worrying about this either but SWMBO recons the touchpad doesn't work her solitaire properly.

Not a fix, but why bother? Touchpads are a PITA, plug a mouse in.

1450839 2018-06-22 03:24:00 Thats always an option but not all that practical when you have the laptop on your lap. Driftwood (5551)
1450840 2018-06-22 04:24:00 I use a wireless mouse, there are two physical sizes. I don't like the touchpad. Use it next to the touchpad (the small size) or on the wide arm of the armchair. In the packaging you will find the mouse & a small USB thingy to plug into the laptop. PJ Poppa John (284)
