| 1450493 | 2018-06-13 07:38:00 | Hi, can anyone tell me what the "normal' CPU temp for this CPU should be? Mine seems to run quite hot, for example right now according to HWMonitor the it's 'package' temperature is 78 degrees with just some basic web pages open. Not sure how accurate that is. Also shows a min of 56 and max of 100. I should mention I also have a watercooling on it so that makes the temp quite surprising. It's not overclocked. The fans seems all seem to be working. I have never received any warnings or shutdowns because of overheating during use, but sometimes at restart BIOS will give be an CPU overtemp warning. Not sure what temp triggers this warning. Some sources on the internet say this temp is not a problem for this CPU, others say it's high. I trust the opinions of you guys and gals more here though. Thoughts? I know there will probably be some suggestions to check and / or replace the CPU thermal paste, honestly I have no idea how to do that or even how to check, so if that's a suggestion i'd appreciate some real basic step by step instructions! | 1450495 | 2018-06-13 08:59:00 | That seems a bit high to me - especially w/c’d. Your pump is running properly? Hot air coming out of the outlet? Dry paste would an obvious first check - you need to pull the heatsink off and clean off and replace the old paste. |

| 1450498 | 2018-06-13 10:15:00 | I've never added thermal paste myself before, is it easy enough to do? As far as I understand it, I just need to lift up the heat sink, clean the old paste fully away with isopropyl alcohol or similar, apply new paste, then reattach the heat sink - is that pretty much it? Any special tools needed to remove and re-attach the heatsink? I've read a few tutorials but they don't really get into that type of detail. How can I test if the water cooling system is actually working or not? If I touch the tubes I can feel what I think is light vibrations - which i hop is the water circulating, but I suppose the vibrations could be caused by the fans or something else in the case. As far as I know, the water cooler is controlled at Bios level so I am not sure exactly how to check it when PC is operating. (I did not build the system myself, the shop I bought it from assembled it for me). Also, the PC does run in a hot climate, but the air conditioning in the room is always on when I am using it. |

I've never trouble shooted a water cooler to know what's likely. I have a Hyper 212 evo on mine and am getting this 8885 And just for comparison a short stress test run gives me 8886 |

| 1450500 | 2018-06-13 10:55:00 | This may sound like a silly question, but its not. By any chance do you leave the side off the case ? If so the cooling will be less effective. Cases are designed for air to flow through them, removing heat as they go, having the side off basically kills this effect | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 1450501 | 2018-06-13 11:00:00 | Hi, no such thing as a silly question, just silly people sometimes heh heh :-) At least this time I'm not one of them, the side stays on the case. When I bought this system, I got a full size case with the deliberate objective of maximising airflow. The case site underneath my desk, 3 sides have good airflow around the outside too, the 4th side is by the edge of the desk but that's the solid edge of teh case anyway. So yep it does seem it is running too hot from those other comparisons. Maybe this weekend I will check and try some new thermal paste and see if that makes a difference. Hopefully that's easy enough to do without stuffing it up. If it doesn't fix it, I will continue troubleshooting and maybe post back here again if I still need help, especially if troubleshooting the watercooler. |

| 1450502 | 2018-06-13 11:02:00 | If you google how to reapply thermal paste and look at the video results there are tons of guides on youtube that will walk you through it. Basically: Unbolt and remove the cooler - a little twist can help separate it from the CPU if the paste has stuck them together Clean the old paste off both surfaces with a lint free cloth or paper towel and if you want a little isopropyl alcohol (I find it's ok without myself) Apply a small pea sized ball of paste in the centre of the cpu Reattach the cooler Check your temperatures again. |
