1450867 2018-06-27 22:23:00 I have been thought 3 laptop battery's over the last few years and the last two battery's I have bought for the laptop have not worked very well or have given up very quickly (with in a month or so after buying it).
.

where the batts genuine Acer or generic.
Lithium batts have a finite shelf life, It may be they were old stock and just too old (despite being unused)
Batt(genuine) and DVD will be about $150ish, so that may be better spent on a new laptop, given the age of the one you have.

With new laptops, you can get the small SSD swapped out for a larger one if you buy from the right place . 500Gb SSD's arnt expensive now.
Some laptops can take 2 HD's , its just a matter of finding one.

Under $1000 you will be lucky to get much with a larger SSD. 128GB generally.

If you wanted to get larger drive then something like this from Harvey norman. www.harveynorman.com.au

Its a compromise between what you are able to spend and the highest spec you want. Lower Price means less options.

Look at most of the laptops with 512GB + SSD, and 8+ GB memory, you are closer to $2000 + (often over).

1450870 2018-06-28 02:08:00 Yeah .. with $1,000 the best you may get is what Wainui said. $1k is really your typical surfing the web kinda computer, the link above has a i7 so that's a bonus. They are consumer laptops. The one linked has no SSD. It's a 1TB HDD.

I have a desktop for photography. So my laptop is casual use. I got a ex leased second hand Lenovo and put upgraded to a SSD and 16GB.

Via Pricespy. This has a i7 with a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD

Pricespy but note that the cheaper ones only has a i3 CPU

Thee are others also. Maybe get something cheap and then up the RAM and SSD.

1450872 2018-06-28 06:24:00 Some of the laptops I have been looking at have both a SSD drive and a normal HDD.

Would that cause any performance issues?

That would be fine . The issue would be if the laptop only had 1 drive and if you opted for a normal HDD .

Windows would be installed onto the SSD and your data files would be on the larger HDD .

If you wanna make it a bit quicker you could also store your image and video files temporarily on the SSD .

1450874 2018-06-28 11:26:00 I don't think anyone would regret having at least some SSD even if its paired with a mechanical drive, unless you have all day to wait for boot or updates. I think 8Gb is a safe minimum based on what you say. Ofthesea (14129)
