1450556 2018-06-16 04:08:00 Still a bit confused how my standard cordless telephone is going to work as it needs to plug into the modem, and having this behind the TV is not ideal even with an extra cordless handset. .

It doesn't. It plugs into the ONT, not the modem.

And the cord is long enough, it's not a wee short thing. If you need it longer, get a longer one....

1450558 2018-06-16 06:01:00 Our phone plugs into the Orcon NF4V modem, which then connects to a Nighthawk R7000 router. I was also told that the ONT is actually a modem and that I wouldn't need the NF4V. So I tried doing without it and connecting the Nighthawk directly to the ONT, and the phone line also to the ONT. Internet worked fine, but phone was no go, so I had to put it all back as it was. Richard (739)

1450560 2018-06-16 07:11:00 Hmm ... any thoughts on the idea to put the ONT in the garage and then use a powerline networking device (www.pbtech.co.nz) to connect the modem in the lounge? Good, bad? Jen (38)

Chorus guy said plug into ont, he plugged it in there and it worked perfectly from go.
I note the Spark modem says it can plug in there, but that to me seemed silly, an unnecessary added extra.

Our ONT in the lounge, ya has a piece of cardboard to hide the blinking lights.

YMMV. Someone moved here from Chc, the previous owner of the house had the ONT in the dining room area, their PCs are in the lounge. They didn't want to knock holes in the walls and re-cable network. They used Powerline Networking. They got 50Mbps. They're on 100 Fiber.

1450563 2018-06-16 10:25:00 If you already have the powerline adapters you could try testing the speed somehow to see what it is. I think it's likely to be slower than a 100M fibre connection in a lot of cases as in my experience the speeds claimed for them are very optimistic.
It's terrible to my garage, but it is a separate building and probably goes through at least 25M of power cable to get there.

1450564 2018-06-17 11:32:00 In order of 'bestness', ethernet cable, powerline, wireless. Is it really hard to get a cable to the lounge? linw (53)

.

So is mine. Why hide them? They're not bright .. .. it's a dim glow when in the dark. One of the cats has a basket in front of it, he's not bothered by it either .. ..
