Stupid yes, but can't help feeling sorry for the guy, that's hideous.

We heard/felt it.
It was so loud and it rattled the house a bit, so we thought it was our neighbours, I thought maybe a truck had hit a house or the transformer or something.

And we are not that close, about 800m....

1453335 2018-09-05 02:58:00 Horrible story, but really, what was the guy thinking.....:waughh:

If he knew enough to do what he did, surely he'd know enough to not do it, if that makes sense. But apparently not.

1453336 2018-09-05 02:59:00 He wasn't thinking.

Awful.

1453337 2018-09-05 05:57:00 Shame he seems to be ineligible for a Darwin Award - that looks like a fairly remarkable and determined application. fred_fish (15241)
1453338 2018-09-05 21:46:00 It seems incredible that he was coherent and talking afterwards. Almost thankfully, he would have bled out pretty quickly.

Wonder how many other cowboys are out there doing 'aftermarket' adjustments to their gear?

1453339 2018-09-06 05:37:00 i would like to know who's acetylene bottles did he fill from and why they let him.

i can understand the motivation, its not cheap to have gas bottles around that you do not use very often.
but acetylene you cannot store under high pressure (its stored in a solvent) and obviously mixing it with oxygen is just nuts.

guys do make up transfer hoses, so you can fill your old bottle from someone else's bottle. handy if you very rarely use it.
otherwise you have to rent bottles (not sure with acetylene and oxygen, maybe $40-50 a month).
tho other crowds are offering swap a bottle services now.

That's what gave me the shudders....poor guy.

And how awful for his mate too.
