1451567 2018-07-15 08:51:00 I am trying to reinstall Win 10

I get to installing the programs but have been sitting on 59% for about an hour, is this common?

1451568 2018-07-15 10:18:00 Is the reinstall from a completely blank HDD or repair install from within W10 ?

In the title
DVD from the current ISO.n10 Pro is that some typo's ??

Upgrades (from within Windows) can take several hours longer than a fresh install.

1451569 2018-07-15 19:41:00 Typo I'm afraid. I was attempting to overwrite what was on the HHD, should I not do that? Should I have deleted all the partitions before starting? Or, should I delete or format the HDD from within the proceedure? Bryan (147)
1451570 2018-07-15 21:40:00 Should I have deleted all the partitions before starting?

Yes, definitely. Theres that option during the Win10 install process
Also, dont connect to internet during the setup stage (you get that option) . Connect after setup has finished , otherwise it may just sit there trying to download updates before
windows is even installed

The install of Win you be really quick. Just make sure you have the latest version 1803 . If it gets stuck or takes to long you have a hardware issue .
Windows update after install can take some time.

1451571 2018-07-15 22:50:00 Tried again but again stuck on 59%. I will leave it for a time but there are many posts on Google and it would seem that there doesn't appear to be an easy fix if any. If this doesn't work I will just load my backup and swear profusely. Bryan (147)
1451572 2018-07-16 03:19:00 As per post #5, I've just cancelled the job still hung at 59%. Swearing a lot, I have reinstalled my backup treating the whole thing as a bad job!

I do have to ask though, What if I had decided to install Win10 for the first time? Obviously the ISO I have burned to a DVD is not working as it should. According to Google, there are many in the same boat so how can I get a good copy to install?

1451573 2018-07-16 04:28:00 Theres two types of general installs.

Repair /Refresh install, this is where Windows leaves all the programs and data alone and reinstalls W10 then puts all the data /programs back.
The other is a fresh install. This wipes out all partitions, remove everything, all programs, data the lot.

A repair install often will take longer (sometimes by hours - and even hang and go nowhere) over a Fresh install.

To get a good /new ISO you can download the media Creation Tool www.microsoft.com When you click on Get tool there's several option when you run it, one is create media =ISO.

There are several other legit places to get W10 ISO. One is Windows Downloader, a stand alone .exe microsoft-windows-office-iso-download-tool (www.techworld.com)

When doing a fresh install, you can boot from the DVD /USB, select custom install, and have the options to remove all partitions, or like I do, boot frome partition software on a CD, and wipe them all first. That way the drives completely clean.

1451574 2018-07-16 05:19:00 I did download the Media Creation tool as an .ISO. I burned it to a fresh DVD. Booted from the DVD and did a custom install after removing all partitions.

I will try again this time using a third party program to wipe them all first and see if that makes a difference.

1451575 2018-07-16 06:36:00 Have you checked the Health of your HDD?

Check with something like CrystalDiskInfo crystalmark.info

1451576 2018-07-16 07:18:00 Thanks Lawrence. I have checked and it is 100% good. It's a new SSD. Thanks also to WT and 1101, I've tried again but still get stuck at 59%. It seems that this problem goes back to Win7 days so I give up and will leave well alone. As I say, many people on Google have had problems too. Bryan (147)
