1450580 2018-06-15 04:45:00 Peculiar fault, W10 up to date. When I tried to use MS EXCEL I found that when I tried to move across the columns horizontally it would move once but when I tried to move it a second time the program would just switch off. This only happened with numbers entered in each column, It did not happen with letters in each column.
Entering figures or letters down a column is OK. Has anyone got an explanation and a cure for this silly problem ??
I got around it by using the similar program in Libre Office

1450581 2018-06-15 10:26:00 What version of Excel are you using?
I presume it is part of the Microsoft Office installed on your PC and not a web based one

I dont understand what you mean by moving across the columns, are you trying to move the contents of one cell from say column A to column b?

Have you tried a repair of MS Office if that is installed on your PC
Find the Settings Icon from the Main Menu, or type "Settings" under the Search Icon. (Magnifying Glass)
Select "Settings"
In the open window, type "Programs" and then click on "Add and Remove Programs"
In the new window select "Programs and Features" on the right hand side.
In the new window scroll down to "Microsoft Office" and select it. Note there may be other words depending on your version of Microsoft Office
Right Click on the highlighted program and select "Change" .... DO NOT select "Uninstall"

In the new window click "Yes"
And the next window censure the 'Quick Repair" radio button is elected, the Click "Repair"
Hopefully your Excel will work after this, if not then you may have to try the "On Line Repair"

1450582 2018-06-18 00:28:00 jedsdad, thank you for your reply but it did not cure the problem. The lack of any other replies indicates that the problem baffles others too ! It seems clear that the program has become corrupted in a strange way from an unknown source and the only cure is to uninstall it and reinstall. As I have Libre Office on the computer the simple answer is to use the version of Excel that it provides. IanS (924)
