1111828 2010-06-20 21:51:00 Hello

my son wants to buy this (www.computerlounge.co.nz) machine.
Has anyone of you had any good or bad experiences with it?

Thanks:)

1111829 2010-06-20 22:48:00 Good brand.
It's fine for what it is, which is NOT a laptop.
It's for just net use and stuff mainly. Not gaming, not full on performance hungry applications.
If thats what he wants, then fine, good brand, good shop too.

1111830 2010-06-20 22:55:00 I use mine as a ebook reader and I can surf the net if I feel the need. It sits next to my bed fully networked to my media library.

Its a good little machine for what it does.

1111831 2010-06-20 23:11:00 We have one, great little netbook. As long as you are after a netbook and not a full laptop or desktop replacement. It's great for web browsing / email / typing notes etc. Don't expect to do any sort of heavy gaming, graphics editing etc as it is NOT for that and won't cope.

We have WinXP rather than Win7 Starer on ours.

1111832 2010-06-20 23:40:00 If you are prepared to spend ~$600 for a machine (or a toy) just to surf the Internet, checking your email, by all means, go ahead!

But is it worth it? Why don't you get a real laptop (notebook)?

Why should I spend another $400 or so to buy something less convenient to carry and for features or capabilities I don't care about?

Thanks for all your replies. Sounds like it is an ok machine.
He is travelling overseas at the end of the year so I'll say it is for Facebook, email and generall browsing, and hopefully to keep in contact with me/us.
I'll forward the link to the thread to him.:thanks:thanks

Even better: Larger HDD capacity for a cheaper price. I am using it at the moment.

Well, if that's all you need for 'computer' and are prepared to spend that sum of money, go ahead (as I said earlier)!

To me, it's just an expensive toy.:D

My boy was very happy with your replies.
He's got a part time job after school, living at home, and feels rich. He can go for it and if it does not work well enough for him he'll sell it on, it's all a learning curve.
I like the idea that if he leaves home, that he may keeps contact more regular with he's new toy. Money is not all.
Thanks again:banana
