1111719 2010-06-20 07:25:00 They are OK -- Started using them in Builds after the Asus ones became a bit harder to get -- Never had any crap out yet in customers PC and I've installed a few :D

My current PC and two workshop PC's have liteon DVD/RW's

1111720 2010-06-20 07:27:00 is $45 a good price for a 24x brand new lite-on DVDRW with nero 8 essentials? smithinator (15240)
1111721 2010-06-20 07:30:00 Nero 8 essentials isnt the full / retail version, like whats on the Nero site. Its got limited functionality, and not as many options / programs. So, I wouldnt bother installing that, if you buy the burner. I would download a free / smaller program, that'll do the same thing Speedy Gonzales (78)
1111722 2010-06-20 07:32:00 but is it a good price? and what is the name of some software that will do the same thing? smithinator (15240)
1111723 2010-06-20 07:33:00 Value for money is hard to say, are you buying from a Bricks and mortar store or online, what model of liteon drive are you getting as you can see here depending on the model you could be being charged a tad much or getting a bargain

1111724 2010-06-20 07:47:00 Depends what you want to do. If you want to burn ISO's you can use Imgburn, or cdburnerxp, or a few other free programs. If you want to edit video, you can use the version of Moviemaker here (noeld.com). Thats if youre using Win7. And if you're using Win7, you can use DVD maker, which is part of Win7 Speedy Gonzales (78)
1111725 2010-06-20 07:48:00 ill give you the link to the auction:

1111726 2010-06-20 07:56:00 i haven't looked at the auction site but seriously dvd writers are so cheap now why would you bother. the last thing you wanna do is get one that produce coasters.

re: the quality. we bought a LG because the LG and Lite-on and ASUS were highly recommended. We had a Goldstar in 1995 (known as a CD-ROM) in those years and that worked for 5 years so we got a LG (same company).

Well there is Plextor :p and Sony was said to be pretty good too but more pricey.
Had it since maybe 2004, not had one coaster. Mind you only got 2x 25 disc packs. With the HDDs these days seldom make the DVDs.
Ours was about $65.

1111727 2010-06-20 08:06:00 That auction doesn't actually say what model it is, but the

LiteOn IHAS324 DVD Writer, DVD 16R/24W/8RW, CD 48R/48W/32RW, Internal, SATA, Black, Nero

Retails at most GOOD shop/ Sellers for around $55 - $60 approx

Most of the time coasters are made because people try to burn to fast -- This goes for all Writers not just Liteon.
