820452 2009-10-14 08:54:00 I just checked one of my c/c that I hardly used . Found entries that I didn't do .

Some dude bought a thousand plus cellphone in Auckland . I am not from Auckland then the dude deposited money into Skype using GBP on 4 occasions on the same day .

Need to call them tomorrow .
I hardly use this card, since I got it maybe 5x only - it is the Kiwibank Zero - zero account fees . How do they get my number unless it was one of the stores I used the card at .

R .

820453 2009-10-14 09:09:00 Damn that sucks nomad. It's times like these when I'd love to find one of these scums and personally rearrange their facial structures with my hands.

Provided they are not brawny/bigger than I am.

820454 2009-10-14 09:47:00 Whenever you do a credit card transaction, either through an eftpos machine or numbers over the phone, all your card numbers & the expiry date are on the little printout from the machine. How dumb is that? Anyone can have a field day. It all boils down to how well the retailer securely files such things. If you've used it only a handful of times, I would imagine the banks fraud dept & the cops will be able to track him/her down Phil B (648)

Only the first 4 and the last 4 numbers show on the printout.
Well that's how our EFTPOS machine works.

820456 2009-10-14 10:20:00 I know how you feel. In our case, the credit card fraud department realised before we did and after confirming we hadn't purchased anything in Pakistan, immediately cancelled the transaction and arranged replacement cards.

I hope they catch the scumbag who used yours.

820457 2009-10-14 11:15:00 And the scum are damn hard to catch too. Losses for the Credit Card companies are huge, every year, no matter what new technologies they introduce to fight fraud. Which is why your interest rates on CCs are so damn high. johcar (6283)
820458 2009-10-14 17:27:00 +1 for what CYaBro said, it's never been the whole number in my experience?

Anyway, it's easiest to "steal" a credit-card when you pay for it over-the-phone.

In my experience, online transactions are probably the safest as the card details don't pass through human hands.

It's just not really done, wildly guessing card details.. I know a guy who used to work at a computer store. He'd take phone orders for PC by day, and by night would use their C/C. The police caught on to him pretty quick and the dude is still doing some hard time for his mischief!

1) Call the credit-card company, Kiwibank or Visa / Mastercard, have all payments stopped. If something else is supposed to go out on AP, too bad, the company will understand if you miss 1 payment due to preventing fraud.
2) Go in to your nearest police station and lodge a complaint

Most of all, whilst this is an unpleasant experience, don't let it get you down, just hang in there :)

My old eftpos printed the lot. I've just looked at this one, (which I've only had for about 3 years & haven't bothered to look) & you're right, only a few numbers displayed.. That should teach me to open my eyes before my gob, probably won't tho.
Sounds like it could have been a manual transaction somewhere. All the card details are transferred with a zip zap, flip flap or whatever it's called

820461 2009-10-14 18:59:00 Banks have 24x7 call centres for reporting credit card fraud. You should report it as soon as you find out, rather than waiting for the next business day. somebody (208)
