819625 2009-10-12 03:30:00 A new cyber-crime police unit has started work to protect New Zealanders from increasingly sophisticated online scammers. The latest case has left a South Island couple destitute after they gave more than $1 million to Nigerian fraudsters.

819626 2009-10-12 03:35:00 That's nice of them. They should only use tax money from stupid people though. wratterus (105)
819627 2009-10-12 03:46:00 Must have been inherited money, nobody that stupid could possibly have earned enough to lose a million and still have cash to spare. It's not like the Nigerian (and similar) scams have not been well publicised over the years.

No wonder the Nigerians et-al continue to seed their market, there's still enough gullible fools out there to keep them in luxury.

You don't see the scam faxes any more now though, bloody interweb has overtaken them. Just as well too, I'd just about had enough of fabulously wealthy relatives dying intestate in plane crashes, and I haven't been linked to a royal family for years.

Cheers

819628 2009-10-12 03:55:00 As well as getting scammed they should be prosecuted by the NZ justice system for attempting to get money through fraudulent means.
I really didnt think there were two people stupid enough in Nouvelle Zealande to respond to something from Nigeria
