819204 2009-10-11 18:28:00 As you will know the govt is going to put up our ACC levies and car registration etc.
It seems to e common knowledge that there are lots of ACC bludgers out there.
Obviously ACC don't care about this waste of our money as its not theirs.
My solution to this and to a few other things is to set up a panel of three laymen, say a carpenter, a pensioner and a worker. Everyone should appear in front of them every six months for them to say that you are a bludger or that you are a genuine case.
We cannot rely on doctors who are biased and ACC staff.
What do you think ?

819205 2009-10-11 18:35:00 There are too many bad backs out there.
I am sure a lot of people dream of getting injured so they can stay at home and not work.

819207 2009-10-11 19:34:00 My experience with ACC suggests that isn't needed, Once they had decided I wasn't responding to their treatment they simply done a review, headed by a Doctor I never even met who decided I was fine and I was bumped off the system.

I figured it was damn rough at the time :( But I can see the logic behind it, The case manager didn't have to be so damn smug though, I was hanging over a hole and they cut the last remaining string.Bastards.

Anyway, They have systems in place to cull out as many people out of the system as they want, and getting the decision reversed is near impossible.

The bludgers are the industries that feed off the ACC system, namely Phyisio But I'm sure their are many others sucking billions of our dollars into their silk lined pockets.

As usual it's all the bludgers.

In fact even with the bad investments they didn't do tto bad - but National wants to privatise it so they will bang on about the lack of money and keep on raising it until we are beaten into accepting a privatisation.

819209 2009-10-11 19:42:00 Sounds like there may be a case for privatisation

I think physio's are losing there privileges.

A bottomless pit like other gov departments.

819210 2009-10-11 19:46:00 Yes, the other thing is that NZ was the first country way back to introduce our ACC system, that was said to be world leading !
My question is how many other countries have copied us ?
Of course the alternative is private insurance, and if you became a tetraplegic at say 30 how long would a private insurance company pay you out for ?

819211 2009-10-11 20:07:00 The ACC is a world leading system, It provides a massive safety net for the entire population, The problem is such a system costs massive amounts of money.Even with all its faults we are in a better position then most,be careful what you wish for...

But,like all systems run on taxpayers money it has bloated out of control and needs to be restructured every decade or so, a good start would be to remove cover for non-residents, that would probably save a few billion.

They could also cut all the promotional crap they do and focus on what they are there for, Accident compensation, Not spending huge amounts on other dribble. There is no need for them to be in big flash buildings in prime locations.

What bad investments?

The sharemarket went down and has now recovered . The ACC investment team usually outperformed the other funds so their recovery may have been better than average .

819213 2009-10-11 20:26:00 I believe Germany was the first to introduce a version of what we know as ACC. They dumped it after a few years - quelle surprise!

Nothing wrong with privatising ACC at all - provided that this also opens up the opportunity for other providers to compete in the same space.

IIRC, the last National government did exactly this, then lost the election and Auntie Helen and her evil cohorts promptly shut that door - wasting millions (again, surprise!) of insurance companies' dollars who had developed systems to provide an ACC-type service...
