819139 2009-10-11 02:04:00 This is a little worrying: www.nzherald.co.nz

Why didn't they have a hot DR site? Surely for a company of their size with such a high dependence on their IT infrastructure, the cost of having a DR location for situations like these would be tiny compared to the damage these incidents do to their reputation and customer satisfaction.

819140 2009-10-11 04:48:00 Wasn't that bad. Didn't see anyone complaining. They may of talked among themselves. The flight was delayed delayed 30mins. They pushed the checkin time back and minimised the gap between checkin time and flight time.

In Wellington the queue was back to the Qantas Lounge or to the main cafeteria area. I think we queued for 45mins. If you arrived later or you queued for a long time and your flight is near, they intercom you, so you jump queue to the front to checkin for your flight. So passengers were not disastrously affected.

819145 2009-10-11 06:56:00 They said tonight it was a power outage that caused it - I see that all too often unfortunately; companies invest big $$$ in high-availability cluster sub-second failovers and hot-spare bare metal VM hosts, and then don't bother to check their UPS function. People tend to forget that the battery in a UPS is usually secondary to providing a nice clean sine wave to your racks. In my experience a lot of routers can lose their configs if shut down or spiked! :groan: nofam (9009)

The v best laptops are IBM I think, I have 3 out of 4. Modular drive bays. Nice black corporate designs. :D

Maybe not for the best for buck or the fastest graphics / specs.
Great support too. Incl international which I can vouch for. 24hr courier parts to you and you return it back on enclosed courier ticket.
