| 819794 | 2009-10-13 03:18:00 | That is not the point. It is my point. I for one have no intention of ringing some group I have no idea about to tell them things that are none of their business and of which they are powerless to act upon. If I thought that someone was getting murdered, assaulted or that the neighbors were stealing everyones gear, Then I'd more likely ring the police if I were to ring anyone at all. |

The only time it could be anonymous would be posting from an Internet cafe - and you'd still be stuffed if they had security cameras installed. Or perhaps a proxy server... There is probably no such thing as "anonymous" in this day and age. |

| 819796 | 2009-10-13 04:23:00 | Oh dear, one has to wonder why they bother. I mean why should people want to reduce the crime rate,we must remind ourselves that 20% of murders are cleared as a result of this system, but hey,why do we want to know about such silly stats. |

I don't get what the big deal is unless you you got something hide. It's not about having to hide something, the problem is crime and law enforcement are both flawed and out of control in NZ. 1. Police are extremely understaffed. This kind of thing with false complaints, which is inevitability happen one way or another, will take up more time and resources that the police don't have in the first place, and this would be ignored. *555 only works because the motive is financial gain and the so called "quotas". And because paying a 100$ fine isn't as easy as getting a warning for murder. 2. The problem in NZ is not that criminals don't get caught, the problem is that they aren't prosecuted and treated as they should be: scum. Lets say they get caught in the act thanks to a anonymous caller or something, what happens then? They'll still be back in doing the same thing next day on bail. You can't use make shift ideas like this to solve problems of any nature. The only option is to take all the bad people off our streets, lock them away, throw away the key and let them starve. I see no point in such provisions if they will have no real effect and at the end of the day turns us against our neighbors. When the judges start giving our humane sentences (not the community detention for manslaughter crap we have now), and these bad guys are off the street. And the jails are packed 4 to a cell. If at that point we still have a crime problem, sure. But there is no point at this stage if the guys will only get a slap on the wrist anyway. Cops are doing a pretty good job as I see it, it's the liberal judges and idiotic parole boards letting them down. |

| 819800 | 2009-10-14 06:24:00 | So don't give it a chance? The way i see it, police need all the help they can get. I think its a good idea, as far as Im aware alot of it will be case building and similar. |

I don't get what the big deal is unless you you got something hide. Crimestoppers is simply an organised phone number to assist what any of us can already do on a random basis. There is nothing in law preventing me pushing an unsigned note under the police station door saying I suspect a tinnie house next door. The Crimestoppers scheme promises anonymity and is official, so it hopes to collect accurate information. However the police do not have the right to enter your home or workplace just because of a phone call. They need a Warrant issued by a Judge which requires supporting evidence - and an anonymous call is about as far as you can get from that. |

| 819803 | 2009-10-14 23:16:00 | Believe it not police aren't that dumb. They know a lot of whats happening in their area because even the scum tell police stuff. Scum don't have the same code of conduct like military people and will dob other scum in even inadvertently. A tip given anonymously could be just the intelligence they need to take some scum out of circulation |
