819432 2009-10-12 02:32:00 How are they laying it? With the cabinets they're putting in down here (in Wellington), they have laid a whole heap of new 100mm green PVC ducting for the fibre + power + anything else they want to put down it in the future.

The fibre Northpower have installed here in Whangarei has just been strung up on the power poles so saved them having to dig up the streets.

819434 2009-10-12 02:54:00 Not much fibre in Mot yet, TerraLink chose a lovely day (maps.google.com) to drive the streetview van around though!

That's not where I live, btw... ;)

Don't be shy Wrat - every day's a great day in Mot.

Will swap you my ADSL2+ for your sunshine? :p

Crikey, now that's a tough one. Will have to sleep on that.

819437 2009-10-12 04:28:00 I just went to that site and I am within the brown area around an ADSL2 enabled Exchange . Everywhere outside that is purple (pink?) with cabinet installation dates starting from January 2011 .

So, from that I assume that my local exchange has a fibre feed, but the consumer loop will remain in copper . The closest roadside cabinet to me is about 100-150 metres away in the next street .

Next step is to install my free router I guess . Should be able to waste time on line three or four times faster than I can at present!

Cheers

That's actually a very bad idea, unless you can be certain what the light source is on the other end!
