1111555 2010-06-19 23:08:00 I'm afraid none of the replies does anything to help me.
I can open a file in winzip if I drag it into winzip.
If I double click on the file it will always open in "widows zip".
I want to make WinZip the default.

I have found the windows unzip fails to work on very large files.

I have Firefox and IE8 both installed. Some sites fail to load properly in IE8, but appear correctly in Firefox. I'm inclined to think 64 bit is the cause.

Every compressed file I download appears as the Windows icon. Right clicking it does not offer an "openwith" option. Even if I download a winzip file from the server it appears on my computer as a windows icon, mot as a winzip.
I get a lot of downloads in winzip, winrar and sevenup. They all open ib winzip if I drag them into it.. I want them all to appear as winzip files.
Thanks,
Jack

1111556 2010-06-19 23:19:00 In Win 7 32 bit, presumably 64 bit will be the same, from the Start button you can select Default Programs.
In there are options to set a program as the default to open a file type, and also a page where file associations can be set.

Have a look there.

1111557 2010-06-19 23:27:00 I'm not sure what is happening here Jack. I use Windows 7 64 bit. I have been using PowerDesk to handle archive (Zip) files. I just downloaded WinZip and these files now appear as WinZip icons. Right clicking now gives me Open ( WinZip by default) or further down I have "Open with" if I click that it gives me PowerDesk, WinZip or choose default program. During the install of WinZip I was asked to associate all archives with WinZip.

Perhaps uninstall and reinstall WinZip?

I'm about to uninstall anyway. :-)

Yep. That should work too. I don't know why there is no Open with option when a Zip file is right clicked though.

1111559 2010-06-20 22:27:00 Sounds as if you're not saving the file extension (.zip) as part of the filename - hence the default Windows icon, which means th OS doesn't know what application(s) to associate the file with. Paul.Cov (425)
1111560 2010-06-20 23:08:00 64 bit isnt the prob. Open Winzip then go to its options / system / associations. Tick everything then OK Speedy Gonzales (78)
