820390 2009-10-14 08:20:00 But doesn't it say somewhere in the ACC mission statement that they are infallible? R2x1 (4628)
820391 2009-10-14 08:44:00 Just get rid of those nana's on the little scooters doing 20kmph on the side of the road, half the time you can't even pass them if there is oncoming traffic. --Wolf-- (128)
820392 2009-10-14 09:58:00 I just think they should either charge everyone a levy, or if they go down the road of charging extra for at risk groups then apply it across the board, If your in a group that costs more then pay up.

But that attacks the roots of the entire "no fault" system, They would have to start evaluating people on an individual basis, and that becomes regular old health/accident insurance.

So either tax the population and pool the damn money and hand it out as required, or tax everyone dependant on perceived risk, But not this bullshit of finding an easy target and ramping up the cost to fill up their spread sheets because THEY ****ed up their finances.

Do you pay insurance(s)? If so is it only third party on motor vehicles?
If you pay for insurance like a home insurance the company will ask where you live and if you happen to live in an at risk area the premiums will be increased accordlingly.

We already pay a tax to support those that are out of work and those who make a living out of getting pregnant for example.

The tax money also goes toward paying politicians and civil servants and etc.

820393 2009-10-14 11:03:00 I have said it before on this Forum and I will say it again:

"Taxation is never for the direct benefit of the taxed"

ACC levies are not insurance, (because they are not based on risk - despite any cries to the contrary by ACC) they are a tax.

I would be happy to pay for ACC-type cover, based on the risk of my injuring myself (which, truth be told, would be relatively high because of my known on-road activities :punk), provided there was some competition in the marketplace to help keep the price of the cover within reasonable limits.

As Metla says, the way ACC calculates levies, because of their "no fault" concept, should be: payouts per annum = X, population = Y, growth (in payouts and inflation) = G, therefore levy per person = (X + G) / Y

You would be dreaming if you thought that there would be any competition to cover you at reasonable cost. High risk needs high profit margin. Maybe there would be scope for competing case management after you a injured, the lowest cost being with the company that insisted that even as a quadriplegic you could still work full time in a call centre.

820396 2009-10-14 19:29:00 I can see allot more tax collectors parking on the Auckland motorway off / on ramps checking for expired regos if this goes thru. Allot of people now are having problems making ends meets and this new tax increase will push them over the edge.. paulw (1826)
820397 2009-10-14 19:57:00 People who drive cars in Auckland with expired rego and no current wof are good cars to pull over.
I went through a check point yesterday on Moire road and was waved through, they were looking at wof and rego label.
The ones pulled up on the side of the road looked like the dregs of society.
Pull up most of these cars and ya gunna get drugs, weapons, people with fines, stolen cars, proceeds of burglaries, outstanding court warrants, people DIC.
The huge increase in a rego fee for big bike is not fair because most of the crashes are caused by them getting snotted by cars so the cars should pay.
You call police tax collectors then don't call them when your wife is getting raped or your house has been burgled.
Its good to know when a car is coming at you on the otherside of the road at a 100 ks a ball joint isnt going to fall off and the car imprint itself in your body. Thats what wofs are for.

820398 2009-10-14 20:01:00 You're almost better off to break the law and get caught 4x a year with no rego, than to actually go legit .... It's a $250 fine for no rego, isn't it? Chilling_Silence (9)
820399 2009-10-14 20:03:00 Do the ACC cost figures include Motocross bikes etc that in many cases don't need to be registered or do the Motocross bikes get charged ACC thru the clubs. It could be that road bikes are cross subsidising here in a big way.:annoyed: Arnie (6624)
