819401 2009-10-16 07:56:00 Unfortunately Guiness does not travel at all well, unless it is carried inside an Irishman. Fortunately this is easily arranged.

But as with all alcoholic beverages, this is a temporary arrangement at best...

However the local Irishman is convinced that with rigorous training and regular practice he can overcome this. It's an expensive business, but he is striving mightily.

819404 2009-10-16 19:54:00 The only real difficulty with Becks is distinguishing between the new stuff and the used stuff. Sort of offshore Waikato. An acquired taste perhaps? ;)

A bit like trying to find the difference between Speights, DB, Tui etc and dishwater. Oh that's right there is no difference

I missed this last night! Deserves a reply!

Becks is one of the few beers that is still actually imported (and yes, I like the taste. Although I admit, after the 4th one, taste isn't foremost in my mind).

The thing that I hate about 'imported' beers, is the fact that many of them are now brewed in New Zealand "Under Licence". Nothing wrong with that on the face of things.

The problem however is threefold:

1. They taste absolutely nothing like the original beer they are supposed to represent.
2. The breweries insist on charging the same as if they were still importing the beer from its origin.
3. They taste absolutely nothing like the original beer they are supposed to represent.

The worst part of the whole scenario is that people actually still buy the likes of Heineken and Stella Artois.

There's no accounting for taste... Maybe they just want to be seen to be paying a high price for the same effect you could get from Lion Red...
