819917 2009-10-12 20:22:00 Hi Guys
At my mums she often loses contact with Sky and gets a white noisy screen with all the hash on it - (what is the term for that ?)

The fix is to turn the sky decoder off for a few seconds and turn it on and then it comes up all ok.

I would like to know if this is a regular occurrence and a fact of life, or is it something that we need to look at or may be able to fix.

It is a bit disconcerting for her at her age.

819918 2009-10-12 20:25:00 Never had it happen :( Zippity (58)

Call Sky and get them to replace the decoder.

It sounds like your mum is using the RF out and has Sky tuned in to one of the channels.
If she was using the AV/Scart outputs then you wouldn't get the white noise screen when the signal drops out, you would probably get a blue screen maybe it wouldn't happen.
It could be that the RF output on the Sky decoder is faulty.

Thanks guys, that gives me some clues on what to look for.

Yes white noise, that was the term I was looking for.
