1113239 2010-06-24 23:22:00 Say you have 2 neighbors, one who is on the internet and the other is not. The one who is on the internet has a wireless connection and says to his neighbor that if he can pick it up in his house he can share the connection and pay half of his internet account. I have 2 questions arising from this scenario, if the ISP found out would they like it and could the person in question be had up for fraud.
:)

1113240 2010-06-24 23:33:00 No, not illegal, he is sharing the connection, same as having a 4 port router switch with ADSL, still sharing!

I did the same for my neighbour until he got his own!

1113241 2010-06-24 23:35:00 if you have a boarder, you could share it and have them pay a bit ......
the thing is you have given the permission for them to use it - so it is not stealing.

1113242 2010-06-24 23:48:00 Three things come to mind:
1) It's not illegal
2) ISP's don't care
3) Regardless of if you offer access for free or a fee, there's nothing stopping you :)

1113243 2010-06-24 23:49:00 It would depend on the ISP's term & conditions, whether you had agreed to use the connection for your own personal use or in the case of a business for internal connections only. PaulD (232)
1113244 2010-06-25 00:07:00 I would say that it's OK. They are just sharing their Internet with permission from the owner. No laws saying that one cannot share the Internet with someone else. bk T (215)

1113246 2010-06-25 01:17:00 The only problem I can see is if you use the the home line to run a server as in hosting.

Otherwise go for it.

I have a third.
Whats happens when he stops paying, continues leeching and the arguments start?

Or here's another:

What happens when everyone else in the neighbourhood starts using it too, and the accusations start?

1113248 2010-06-25 02:34:00 password it so the entire street doesn't have access and keep an eye on our many pc's connect to it.
or do access via mac addy of his pc.

biggest problem is if they start doing anything illegal online its traced back to you.
