| 1112451 | 2010-06-22 12:44:00 | Ok so I've got two routers: Dynalink ADSL Modem Router (4 x 10/100 ports) Model: RTA300 Belkin N Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router (WiFi and 4 x 10/100 ports) Model: F5D8636-4 v1 And 3 laptops connecting: Vista SP2 (wired and wireless) Win 7 (wired and wireless) Win XP (wired) The original Dynalink has been in place for some time but I wanted to get wireless internet on the home network. Firstly I just swapped out the Dynalink for the new Belkin one but it seems to disconnect from the net quite frequently ie every 5-10mins and not reconnect. I would have to manually go to the router configuration page and reconnect it. Checked the settings and it's not supposed to disconnect after a certain time or anything. The Dynalink would run for months without disconnecting. Also the Belkin was working ok when I had it in Auckland, it would rarely disconnect. So I had a crack at it connecting the two routers together. Dynalink I left as the first router with the ADSL connection. I turned DHCP off on the second (Belkin) router and assigned it an IP outside the DHCP range of the first router: First router IP: 192.168.1.1 First router DHCP range: 192.168.1.3 - 192.168.1.49 Second router IP: 192.168.1.100 Subnet for both routers: 255.255.255.0 Then I connected the two routers together with a standard ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports on each router. All the PCs then had a wired connection into one of the two routers. The two PCs that had wireless could connect via WiFi to the secondary Belkin router and get an IP address from the Dynalink router. All laptops could access the internet. Then a few hours later I started running into problems, the Win7 PC would sporadically drop off the internet. The machine would claim it was still connected if you went into the Network and Sharing centre and would show the network and internet icons as connected. However internet browsing and POP email would be offline. The only way you could get it back online again was to disable the LAN connection and wireless connection and then turn it back on again. This would be all fine for 10minutes then it would strangely drop off again. The other PCs could still connect however and the internet connection on the router was alive and well. Any ideas on how to fix it so that PC isn't dropping the internet connection? Do I need to enable bridging or some other feature on the Belkin router? Have I set this up correctly for connecting two routers together? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks very much! |

| 1112453 | 2010-06-22 14:38:00 | The Win7 PC works fine though when connected to the original Dynalink router with no Belkin router connected, it doesn't drop out or anything. So that makes me think it's something to do with the router setup. | Orca (3098) | ||

The belkins are known to be hopeless, there are many times I have seen customers have internet problems, change the belkin router and the problems go away. |
