821585 2009-10-17 22:38:00 yesterday i decided i would shampoo the carpet with one of those rug doctor machines from countdown.........
it went well, luckily i booked it for all day as i had so many unexpected visitors and stops yesterday i was lucky to get it finished. the machine is easy to use, but is very noisy....

i had moved furniture outside, i had put things up on top of non movable stuff, and start at about 10 am, and at about 4 pm i finished.

but the thing that gets me is, i am not the most tidyest person at the best of times, and with stuff everywhere and the kitchen had stuff so we couldnt get into the dishwasher or clear the bench, and we had no where to sit. and i had visitors turn up, and people knocking on the door ( met some new neighbours) and lucnh and children to feed, made the day long, and the house was a absolute mess...... lol

and also the Dr says no heavy lifting, no excess standing.............. ( a new back prob) lol so the kids and i battled the furniture, and the pain, and codiene helps....... and now i have a lounge full of stuff to move back in place, as it decided to rain ......at 4.30 ish and we just ran about and rescued the furniture, and i have clean carpet and furniture and junk everywhere..... lol

and so far no visitors........... i more visitors yesterday than i have had the whole time living here... they never come when the house is tidy do they...

murphys law or something? :D

821586 2009-10-17 22:51:00 An absolutely beetlicious day. You surely do know how to have fun.

Never mind, in another week the carpet will be dry enough to lie on the floor and drum your heels while cursing Murphy roundly.

Agreed and you get a better job with less moisture left but it is far better getting a good vacuum and using it regularly as each time you shampoo a carpet you take out more of the natural oils so they get dirtier faster as well as the fact that some carpets will need restretching a while after shampooing.

Which is a good reason to buy top end nylon carpets these days.

Far better than wool.

We've got over it now, but back a while my wife tipped all of a percolator of strong coffee onto our nearly new light coloured carpet. We mopped up what we could and covered the mess with wet towels and called the carpet cleaner ( There was only one in town at that time and we learned later that he'd only recently bought the business).

He arrived with all the gear and did a fine job.

It was only when he'd finished and was packing up that we saw he'd left a trail of bright orangish brown footprints on the carpet right through the lounge from the main door to the dining area.

The moral is, use a pro by all means but make sure he hasn't got a second job as a sharemilker, and make him take his boots off outside just as an extra precaution.

He did a good job of cleaning the coffee stain, the footprints was a challenge that I don't think he'd tackled before. It took many months before they finally faded away.

821593 2009-10-18 01:54:00 Hmmm. Having a wood burner I can tell you wool carpets are far, far better.

As for carpet cleaners, I was reading my sons local paper and they advertise $49 3 rooms, $50 3 rooms with free stain removal, $15 per room etc.

The absolute cheapest I could get here was $110 for 2 rooms.
The worst wanted mileage on top of that.

You are welcome to your nylon carpets especially if you have a fire place as a spark on a nylon carpet will create a hole in no time whereas wool can be just brushed off if caught quickly.
