820652 2009-10-14 23:49:00 A week or so ago a friend at worked asked about his PC at home BSOD'ing on loading certain games and diving pictures. I had a quick view of posts on this forum and advised him it's nothing else than overheating, possibly due to too much dust in the heat sink and on the insides in general. Lo and behold, with much joy, I got a bottle of good red wine the next day to say thanks - when he opened up the heat sink was full of dust and he could not remember ever cleaning the PC out.

So please enjoy this glass of Cab Sav with me - prost!

Did it actually fix the issue though? It's pretty common for older PCs heatsinks to be clogged with dust.

820655 2009-10-15 00:16:00 Yep, he vac'ed and cleaned it out and could run his stuff as he did before - lots of pics minimised, run the game at the same time, etc. No probs since so I believe we solved it. It must be said that he also did a bit of sanding and painting the few weeks before (and when he said that I knew what was wrong coz I had the same, you just can't keep out that kind of dust ...........)
