1113540 2010-06-27 01:10:00 With my old laptop - the PC Speaker sound does come, but it is not as good as the good old days when they had a real PC Speaker attached to the computer case :p

More modern desktop PCs have done away from the PC Speaker afaik?
All modern desktops (and probably most laptops) have a piezo (www.lynxmotion.com) pc speaker either separately mounted or on the motherboard, that's where your system start-up beeps come from, but you won't get much hi-fi quality from it , you could hook up a small speaker (www.jaycar.co.nz) to the output pins on your motherboard (similar to this (aopen.jp)).

Yeah most cases now use a Piezo beeper instead of an actual speaker. These are usually much quieter and don't sound as good as the original speakers. You can easily find real speakers in old PC cases or you can buy the one from Jaycar etc (which is exactly the same as the old style ones)

For laptops, the PC speaker is routed through the normal speakers in most cases, instead of having a separate speaker or beeper.

1113542 2010-06-27 01:30:00 In XP, to turn on your PC speaker right-click your volume icon in the taskbar (RHS), select Open Volume Control, click Options>Properties and scroll down that list, PC speaker should be at the bottom, select it and click ok.
You may also need to to manually configure sound card emulation within the game setup/installation (this will be the hard part).

1113543 2010-06-27 02:43:00 Yeah - how does one get DOS drivers for a ASUS motherboard sound device ;) Nomad (952)
1113544 2010-06-27 05:20:00 Install Dosbox!

It takes the hassle of installing all the sound drivers.

1113545 2010-06-27 23:13:00 +1 for DOS box. It works great and saves on having to reboot. It works on all my old DOS games (that I still have). Unfortunately most of my games were thrown out, along with the 5¼ floppy's they were stored on.:(. The sad face is for the games, not the floppy's. McRuff (12291)
