1113249 2010-06-25 02:35:00 I have a third.
Whats happens when he stops paying, continues leeching and the arguments start?

Or here's another:

What happens when everyone else in the neighbourhood starts using it too, and the accusations start?

Good point. Happened to my nephew, when he was at work, his younger student siblings were thrashing online games/and downloads- claiming they were only doing their studies online. So he banned them for a while.

1113250 2010-06-25 03:44:00 Personally I wouldn't deem it illegal if both parties agreed on the shared usage and payment.

The ISP won't know and most likely won't care but they may have some clause in their terms and conditions which states someone should not do this - especially if they are charging the other person.

The only problem I could see really would be if the neighbour used the connection for something dodgy and was tracked down by the police, they may deny having anything to do with it and the other person gets in trouble for it.

If he starts leeching and stops paying, you change the encryption key and tell him to get stuffed.

If other people start using it and if your AP has no security, you get what you deserve. If you told your neighbour your security key it could get messy. Assuming you trust that he didn't give it to any other neighbours, someone could have cracked into your network (can be done quite easily if you use WEP)

1113251 2010-06-25 09:51:00 Nothing wrong with that set up as long as neighbour pays share. I let my neighbour use mine once or twice for free, when she had her internet cut off for non payment. (solo mum, nice lady.)
