821595 2009-10-18 02:29:00 Hmmm. Having a wood burner I can tell you wool carpets are far, far better.

As for carpet cleaners, I was reading my sons local paper and they advertise $49 3 rooms, $50 3 rooms with free stain removal, $15 per room etc.

The absolute cheapest I could get here was $110 for 2 rooms.
The worst wanted mileage on top of that.

You might want to take a look at this: cbs2.com

While it's an American news report, the local companies might be running the same sort of scam here.

Before we moved I had the carpets (3 rooms) done for $40 in Auckland. Good job too.
Here they are all robbers.

Wow - how long did it take them? Labour costs + travel + chemicals + equipment would surely cost more than $40?

821598 2009-10-18 05:26:00 You are welcome to your nylon carpets especially if you have a fire place as a spark on a nylon carpet will create a hole in no time whereas wool can be just brushed off if caught quickly.

Nylon will not fade, will last longer, will not flatten, will not stain, the new nylon is better than it it used to be with burns, but I concede wool might be better there.

821600 2009-10-18 06:58:00 I've done my carpets a few times using those machines. Not again! I reckon it's worth paying the pros to do it.

What is wrong with the Carpet Doctor machines? We have always had Jae clean our carpets but I have thought I would give the DIY cleaners a try.

The carpets end up drier with the pros and generally a much better job.

821602 2009-10-18 10:47:00 yesterday i decided i would shampoo the carpet with one of those rug doctor machines from countdown.........
it went well, luckily i booked it for all day as i had so many unexpected visitors and stops yesterday i was lucky to get it finished. the machine is easy to use, but is very noisy....

i had moved furniture outside, i had put things up on top of non movable stuff, and start at about 10 am, and at about 4 pm i finished.

but the thing that gets me is, i am not the most tidyest person at the best of times, and with stuff everywhere and the kitchen had stuff so we couldnt get into the dishwasher or clear the bench, and we had no where to sit. and i had visitors turn up, and people knocking on the door ( met some new neighbours) and lucnh and children to feed, made the day long, and the house was a absolute mess...... lol

and also the Dr says no heavy lifting, no excess standing.............. ( a new back prob) lol so the kids and i battled the furniture, and the pain, and codiene helps....... and now i have a lounge full of stuff to move back in place, as it decided to rain ......at 4.30 ish and we just ran about and rescued the furniture, and i have clean carpet and furniture and junk everywhere..... lol

and so far no visitors........... i more visitors yesterday than i have had the whole time living here... they never come when the house is tidy do they...

murphys law or something? :D
beetle No trouble Beetle. Just get your Fiat 500 out of the garage, into the lounge and push that gear back into place.

821604 2009-10-18 22:54:00 Now that one made my day! that is defienitly the best photo ive seen since ya showed it to me last time . . . . . . . . :p

the carpet is still wet in places, the house smells cleaner, but damp now:p and the rain flooded the back yard of things i had thrown out the door for the washing pile . . . . . . . . lol they are wet now, but still need washing . . . . . . . is it the weekend yet?

i think yes a pro would be better, but i wanted to give it a go, and last time it cost about $120 for the whole house . . . . with the pro, and the house was empty then . . . . . . . . . id still have to move it all . . . . :(

beetle:rolleyes:
