821239 2009-10-17 00:26:00 Apologies.. slightly off topic. Amazon is quoting $us 200 that's $nz 270 approx. (Home premium). DSE quoting $389. That is a hell of a difference.
Any snag if purchased from elsewhere overseas-- Amazon sell only to US market? any one found a safe source for legitimate copy?

821240 2009-10-17 00:31:00 You can buy the OEM of Prem 32 or 64 bit version for 195, or 210 down the road (in Auckland) Speedy Gonzales (78)
821241 2009-10-17 00:41:00 My copy seems to vary between being authentic and not on a smewhat erratic basis. Possibly because I changed mob'os a couple of days ago. :)
Still, it's only Winderz, so what harm can it do? Everything important is either off shopping, in the fridge or on Linux.

821242 2009-10-17 06:33:00 Anyone planning to go down to their local DSE on the 22nd October at midnight for the Windows 7 launch??
I think you need to get a life.

Linux is such a good operating system that it has 2% share of the market.
Imagine how much share they would have if they charged money for it ?

821244 2009-10-17 17:41:00 Yes shops like DSE and Noel Lammingtons always charge high prices.
But you need to compare a similar shop in the USA to DSE.
I bet it will still be much cheaper here.
Aside from freight, there should not be much difference in NZ retail prices, but there always is.
The reason as I have said many times is that NZ's pop is too small. A company has overheads and a CEO to pay from 75 times less sales (US pop v NZ pop).

821245 2009-10-17 22:15:00 Mine (That I haven't got yet) cost $199. Alas, I did miss out on the DSE drivel. R2x1 (4628)

If that is the case why does Great Britain pay so much more. They basically pay in pounds what the yanks pay in dollars. MS do it because their are so many suckers.

Actually even MS admit that the Linux share is more like 10 to 11% and stating as you do above over simplifies things a little too much.
