1114538 2010-06-29 12:54:00 Some say you can, some say you cant (social.answers.microsoft.com). Did you upgrade from Vista to Win7? Speedy Gonzales (78)

1114541 2010-06-29 20:27:00 As long as there's nothing in there you want to keep (check the Documents and Settings folder), it should be safe to delete. :) pcuser42 (130)
1114542 2010-06-29 21:18:00 I did the upgrade version from XP to 7 and ended up with a Windows Old folder. As said above check that there is not anything you want in it then delete it. If the delete option won't work use diskcleanup to remove it.

1114543 2010-06-29 22:29:00 As I understand it, when you install Windows 7, the existing windows is renamed Windows Old. It can be deleted BUT if there was anything that you want to keep such as photos, documents, downloads etc, you should copy these into a folder of your choosing in Win7 first. Bryan (147)
1114544 2010-06-29 22:52:00 You might have some permission issues deleting the folder windows old, as I have tried on a couple of installs....
Best practice to format the hard drive before installing Windows 7, however, if you dont have a spare drive for your docs, its a great way to save dos for the new o/s
