2010-06-29 09:02:00 | Hi folks, just wondering if anyone could comment on this system I am looking at please! Phenom II 3.4 ghz quad core black edition CPU SLI Asus motherboard 2xpci-e ATI graphics GDDR5 1 gig graphics display with 3 DVI outs - ATI 4890 8 gig DDR3 13333 mhz ram Antec extreme gaming case with additional cooling fans 500gb Sata 2 hard disk 300gb Sata 2 hard disk Dual layer DVD burner x16 speed 19" Compaq lcd monitor Comments on this and its likely cost would be much appreciated, as it has generated a lot of controversy among my friends. Thanks, and cheers to all.

2010-06-29 11:12:00 | Cool comment thanks Rukrato, but does the graphics card sound a bit low-end, it is 3 monitor capable, which I want for running fight simulator X. I have seen it in action, seems to work fine, with no stutter. Cheers! | Tony S. (450) | |
2010-06-29 11:19:00 | Depends on the price really. How much are you paying for it all? And as Yukrato suggests, loose 4GB of the RAM and you can step up the video card. Look at the 5850 for example, a better card than a 4890. It's still a good card, at least for this year. | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |
2010-06-29 11:20:00 | Yeah. If not you can just save the money for the 2 extra monitors. | Yukrato (14866) | |
2010-06-29 14:31:00 | Phenom II 3.4 ghz quad core black edition CPU - If you aren't planning to overclock, you could look for a standard phenom 2 instead, as the Black editions generally add about 30-50 bucks on. SLI Asus motherboard 2xpci-e ATI graphics - Any particular model? What are the features? And do you plan on having more than one graphics card? GDDR5 1 gig graphics display with 3 DVI outs - ATI 4890 - The card is ok, but not brilliant. As others suggest, I'd upgrade the card for future additions to your software and hardware catalog. A minimum of the 5770 would be my recommendation, you could also go for a dual configuration or a 5850 if you've got the cash. 8 gig DDR3 1333 mhz ram - 8 gig should handle whatever you have to throw at your pc, but if necessary this is one area where you can cut back a bit. Don't go lower than 4gig though. Antec extreme gaming case with additional cooling fans - no opinions here from me :) 500gb Sata 2 hard disk 300gb Sata 2 hard disk - Are these Sata 3gb or 6gb drives? If you're going to use RAID, bump the second one up to 500gb (preferably an identical pair). You could also simply get a single 1tb hdd, particularly if you can find a decent 6gb drive and a motherboard that supports it. Dual layer DVD burner x16 speed 19" Compaq lcd monitor - OEM brands are generally not very good for things like this. If you're going to be gaming you might want to look at a bigger monitor with a higher resolution than this one is likely to have. My monitor does games nicely and looks pretty sharp while doing it. Monitors I looked at were around 20-23" with resolutions of around 1440x900 or 1600x900, and in a couple of cases ones i believe of around 1600x1024 or something stupid like that. Only the highest priced monitor in the store was 1920x1080 and it cost $500 on sale. There were a couple of 1900x1200's but they were something ridiculous like$700. So mine at 23" of 1080p for only 350, not a bad deal.

2010-06-29 21:17:00 | +1 8ftmetalhaed accept the 4890 is around 10-15% faster than the 5770, sure there is DX11 on the 5770 but that's fairly worthless atm, id take the speed. 1. 19" is prob not even a wide screen, should be 23 or 24", 2. The 2 x lower capacity drives are odd, I mean a 1TB is only $130ish Feel like we are talking about a second hand machine? and whats the price?

2010-06-29 21:21:00 | The idea of 2 harddrives is, the larger one for windows, the smaller for Linux. The monitor is widescreen | Tony S. (450) | |
