823530 2009-10-23 18:53:00 I have built homes over the last few years and keeping shower glass pristene has been no problem.

However, I have now just bought a 10 year old house where the glass has not been properly maintained and appears to be etched by soap over a long period of time.

I have used "Showerpower" which has made a difference but the glass is still not clear and bright.

Has anyone got experience in revitalising shower glass?

823532 2009-10-23 19:30:00 A bit off topic but I have heard that shower gel causes less problem than regular soap. Nomad (952)
823533 2009-10-23 20:11:00 The 'etching' marks are not so much caused by soap, but by the chemicals in the water . Some areas are far worse than others .
I tried several products and eventually found the only way to get rid of most of the marks was using a product "C-thru" I think Mitre10 sell it . It requires a lot of elbow grease and working in the confines of a shower isn't all that pleasant . I sectioned off areas and worked over a few days until I got the result I wanted and a very sore wrist!! I just wish it could be applied by some cordless power tool . There is also a finishing product that helps protect .

You could also try ceramic stove top cleaner as that works on a slight abrasion method .

A squeegee down after each shower, or a rough towelling will help keep it clear, but I think you probably know that . Good luck .

Do you actually NEED shower glass to be clear?

(unless of course you bought the house to on-sell)

823535 2009-10-23 23:11:00 Clean it with one of those scratchy cloth things - the material ones you clean non-stick pans with.
And whatever cleaner you like. I'd start with Jif.

Once it's clean, use Shower Power - spray on, wipe all over and leave it until the next person showers. Rinse then.

You could also give the white vinegar and baking soda a go.

823536 2009-10-24 05:55:00 Scrub with jif and a scotchbrite, one of those green scrubber things. A bit of elbow grease required, but does the trick. Then use Bam, the one for showers and bathrooms.

What do you use to keep your shower glass pristine?

823538 2009-12-12 21:24:00 If it is just water stains then use Isopropyl Alcohol or Methylated spirits diluted in water.

Use a soft sponge cloth. Try the Isopropyl on your cars windscreen. The water just slides off.

In the past all we have done is use one of those rubber type scrapers that window cleaners use. Use it straight after a shower to clean off all the water and any soap. If after a period there is some build up, use showerpower and again after rinsing merely use the scraper. We never had any problems but it is regime you must get use to.
