823442 2009-10-23 08:39:00 Hi All.

What is this NZ thing about dumping the team coach because the team keeps losing. In mind at the moment I have the cricket team.
On the day it is the team that plays cricket, not the coach. If the side keeps losing I dont think you can blame the coach. These guys are supposed to be the best in NZ & committed to the game that pays them well. Therefore they should train to be the best, dont leave it all to the coach, the coach does not have a magic wand that can turn a mediocre player into a good one.

So...Cricketers...YOU make yourselves better, only you can do it. Dont blame the coach for YOUR failuers & big headednes. PJ

So are you saying there's no need for a coach in any sport?

823447 2009-10-23 20:47:00 The present NZ cricket coach has a bad track record with previous teams he has coached.

823449 2009-10-23 23:04:00 So are you saying there's no need for a coach in any sport?

Of course a coach is needed! To look after the training, however as the saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink". If a player in any sport doesnt want to train, then what can one do about it.

To me a coach, organises a bat & ball training session & comments on weak points & skills. Fitness training, even basic PT, (as us oldies knewit). Speed & stamina, agility.

Listen to individuals moans & groans, show sympathy or a kick up the bum.

Surely a sportsman, in this case cricket, wants to play in the big league & big money, then it is up to him to do his best at it. If that means heavy traing, fitness & practise the get on with it. Dont complain about the coach. I am aware that THIS coach has a poor track record, but there have been better ones. Anyway what firstclass coach would want to be associated with a bunch of losers?

SO...Blame the coach.. I Mean he was doing all the batting, all the bowling & all the fielding. All by himself. No wonder he lost the match!!!

Most of the NZ team, in my opinion, are a bunch of Whingers, Would Be's if they Could Be's. We have had a dood Cricket Team But all those TRULY Proffessioanl are now retired. I tell you what tho, Bring back a team of the oldies, give them a months revisional training & I bet they would beat this present lot.

Still ranting PJ .

ps, We are all responsible for our own actions. Yes? PJ

823450 2009-10-23 23:58:00 Moles has resigned.

Edit: Interesting opinion from Crowe... This (www.stuff.co.nz) sounds like what you're after PJ.

Edit 2: Contrary to your opinion of the NZ team being a bunch of whingers, their criticism of Moles came in a standard performance review after a successful Champion's Trophy tour - we made the semifinals if you remember. The views they expressed were that they hadn't been receiving any technical assistance from the coach - not that the coach wasn't doing their training for them. This is quite evident if you watch any of them play, for example Jesse Ryder hasn't had any work done on his footwork. He's a very good batsman, but there's definitely room for improvement with proper coaching.

823451 2009-10-24 00:44:00 I stole this from the Battrick forum. I tend to agree with it.

I agree with what you say 4h... disappointing to see Moles go as I thought he appeared to be a good coach.
And at the end of the day if those guys are playing at that level they shouldn't need major coaching, as that is what the domestic game is for. It seems Moles got on well with the players so I'm disappointed they have turned around and got rid of him.

I doubt Wright will take on the job full time as he has previously stated that he does not want to travel overseas too often due to his family. This is why he wasn't really considered last time around.
