| 824427 | 2009-10-27 06:16:00 | I thought the opening sentence summed it up. Cicero was quoting. After all, :) He can't write that much, can he? No matter he didn't mention the source directly. I got the impression he copied multiple sources. It made a nice story. By the way, who is in your logo? Seems familiar, but can't quite place him. |

| 824431 | 2009-10-27 07:23:00 | Guess who it is. You said he seemed familiar, so I gave you a clue. Sorry, I was thinking of a more recent pic. Possibly 17th century, if I remember the book. My turn. How do you feel you relate to Tāmaki Makaurau? I have visions of your ancestors travelling the seas, and then falling in love with the Maori. I realise it's never that romantic, but it might make for more of an interesting story than Cic's. |

| 824432 | 2009-10-27 21:41:00 | My turn. How do you feel you relate to Tāmaki Makaurau? Not at all ... just a bit of mischief relating to a possible name for the proposed super city. (Akin to Whellington, Whanganui, or Whawkes Bay). "more of an interesting story than Cic's"? Arguably. Although this ancestor never made it to the south seas as far as I'm aware, it would have made for an interesting (or titillating) inclusion in his CV. A career senior ecclesiastic, politician and diplomat, he was what we would now call a mover and shaker, being Archbishop of York, Chancellor of England, Ambassador to the Court of the King of France, as well as at various times chancellor of Cambridge and Oxford. He managed to p*** off the pope which is possibly why he never made it past being archbishop. He also p***ed off Richard III by taking the queen's side in a domestic, and ended up in the Tower of London for three years. I try to live my life emulating said ancestor, but all I've managed to achieve so far is to p*** off people, off whom Cicero is the most ilustrious and latest in a long line ... |
