1115220 2010-07-01 23:52:00 Hi guys, I want to copy a list from a non excel source (.xps file) to excel.

The problem I have is when I select the list from the .xps file and paste to XL it shows up as one long text reading left to right in one cell.

Is it possible so that if I copy and paste, (its a list of names) it can paste so each name is in a cell of its own and reads downwards?

Or am I looking at manual input?

Cheers guys
Rob

1115221 2010-07-01 23:57:00 ...I thought Id post an example to show whats happening, sorry for the double post:

The original list:

J Bloggs
P Jane
T Rex

When copied to XL it is going:

J Bloggs P Jane T Rex

I just want it the same as the original.

Cheers

1115225 2010-07-02 00:30:00 One method may to try importing into Word. Then do a search and replace space " " with a comma "," then import into Excel as a comma delimited file.

If you would like me to give it a go PM me and I'll give you an Email address where you can send the original file.

1115226 2010-07-02 00:38:00 Ill give it a shot Sweep, due to the sensitivity of the files I cant send any of it out.
Just browsing the net at converters, anyone tried them?

1115227 2010-07-02 00:51:00 copy & paste to a text file (in notepad or equiv)
Then either just open it with excel or do a data import and point it at the text file.

1115229 2010-07-02 01:26:00 Just for future reference Rob, Excel is equipped to do this with the Text To Columns function under the Data menu; it will parse (break down into constituent pieces) anything based on whatever delimiter you tell it (space, comma, pipe etc). Very handy tool!! nofam (9009)
