826221 2009-11-01 08:28:00 .....apparently!

I heard on the news tonight there are 20-something changes to the road rules. Does anyone know of a website that says what these changes are? I've just been on the NZTA website (don't they administer the rules?) and I can read about 'doing it online', other weird and wonderful things and various road closures, but I cannot find a single word on all these new rules........pretty lame if you ask me. Am I looking on the wrong website, or are they just as lackadaisical about these changes too?

Any pointers would be appreciated.....

826222 2009-11-01 08:34:00 Maybe here somewhere (www.parliament.nz) Speedy Gonzales (78)
826223 2009-11-01 08:37:00 Quite a number of people do not know most of the previous rules anyway.

Adding a few more will make no difference.

BTW. In Court you will find that ignorance is no excuse.

826224 2009-11-01 08:41:00 My point exactly. Where on that website Speedy? I'm starting to think these new rules are top secret.

It shouldn't be this hard! {...said the nun to the bishop...} but this is starting to get annoying.....I don't read newspapers, I cast half an eye to the 6pm news, but I do look to the internet to keep me informed - to no avail so far......

826225 2009-11-01 08:43:00 NP the police will point out these new rules when they write out your ticket lol.
Ignorance is a defence in a court of law.

826226 2009-11-01 08:44:00 I'm wondering if ignorance could be a defence in this case for today and maybe tomorrow. I have actively been searching for the new rules, and have been obstructed by LTSA and NZTA from learning them so far through their inability to release any information to the public. I'd say it is unconstitutional to charge someone with an offence if you won't first tell people what is and isn't an offence.....yeah I know I'm being difficult....and I'm sure it will change soon. I just looked up the NZ Police website and they provide a couple of examples in a pdf form but then refer the reader to the NZTA website which, insofar as I can see, has nothing on the subject...... andrew93 (249)
826227 2009-11-01 08:49:00 This ? (http://www.transport.govt.nz/) Speedy Gonzales (78)
826228 2009-11-01 08:49:00 It could be a defence... whether it's a successful defence is another story.

Details of the law changes are here: www.landtransport.govt.nz

826229 2009-11-01 08:52:00 Thanks for that - that's easier to read than the legalise I found here: www.landtransport.govt.nz andrew93 (249)
826230 2009-11-01 09:04:00 Sigh.

Go to the Government site that deals with Acts and Bills of Parliament then try and interpret the same along with amendments thereof.

If you use the internet then try sorting out the wheat from the chaff.

When, or if, you find yourself in Court get yourself a very good lawyer.

The new rules have not been tested yet although I do note that a person has been arrested for driving under the influence after using cannabis.

It remains to be seen if the matter is defended.
