825798 2009-10-31 03:41:00 So far we have had the greatest guitarist and greatest drummer threads so now for something totally random .

It's time to vote for your favourite Flautist my vote goes to Ian Andreson of Jethro Tull, such an unusual choice of instrument for a rock band but I like it .

:illogical:rolleyes::punk

Oh alright then . . . . . . . . . . .
Many of the sax and clarinet players of 20s and 30s dance/jazz bands doubled up on wind instruments such as the flute, oboe and picolo etc . instruments not usually associated with bands .

One such out of many was Arnold Brilhart, he can be heard in this Joe Venuti and his New Yorkers recording from 1928,

I vote . . . one of my daughters . She achieved something called a grade 8 when she was only 16 . Apparently it's next to the highest that can be achieved at music school .

Anyway, her playing ability is amazing .

825804 2009-10-31 21:12:00 Apart from Jethro, About the only band I know with a flute player in their regular line up is Haggard. So my vote would have to go to Linda Antonetti . the_bogan (9949)
825805 2009-11-01 02:47:00 The only one that springs to mind for me is 'Going up the country' by Canned Heat; I have a real soft spot for that song, and the flute lines are an integral part of the song's vibe. :thumbs: nofam (9009)
825806 2009-11-01 03:55:00 I knew I could coax some of you out with this thread. I'm surprised terry didn't go for someone like James Last :thumbs: gary67 (56)
825807 2009-11-01 04:03:00 I should probably mention my little sister, who could actually play the flute reasonably well, provided she was standing on one foot, and looking at the ceiling.

Suffice it to say her career as a concert flautist never flourished. :rolleyes:
