825643 2009-10-30 08:28:00 As the title says, How old is your main PC, If you wish you can also elaborate and say if its a gaming PC, video editing PC, just an email/internet machine, and if or when you are planning to upgrade it. Metla (12)
825644 2009-10-30 08:31:00 Desktop is about 18months old. And laptop is a spring chicken at about 3 months!!!

Laptop is an entertainment unit, plugged into my 42" TV via HDMI. Desktop is mainly used for storage for all my music and movies.

Will probably upgrade the laptop in a few years and may just upgrade desktops HDD at some point.

825645 2009-10-30 08:34:00 After writing all that up, It occurred to me that I don't know the age of my PC's, Though I rarely tweak them nowadays.

Both are running Dual core Athlons, a 4200 and 4600 respectively, Both run like a dream and generally don't show their age until some new programs drags them down for no good reason.

Never known either of them to crash.

825646 2009-10-30 08:41:00 Really hard to age my PC....a couple of components are 2 years old, some are just over one, some are a few months old. Though nothing is the latest/greatest.

That will change pretty soon however. :D

825647 2009-10-30 08:45:00 Desktop is about 18 months old (April 2008) and laptop is about 5 months (May 2009). I use my PCs mainly for video editing, as well as a fair bit of virtualisation. jwil1 (65)

825649 2009-10-30 09:38:00 A year and a half, but there's no option for that.

Netbook is almost a year old, but spent a year in the shop doing not a lot.

The second desktop is three years old now, and still going. (Surprising, for a Dell.)

825650 2009-10-30 09:43:00 Main PC - 8 yo case with internals averaging maybe 4 months old, laptop is18 months, two other desktops about 8 years, heavy old desktop about 10 yo, antique Wang desktop around 18~ 20 years. (Newer operator needed.) R2x1 (4628)
825651 2009-10-30 09:48:00 Only got this one at the start of this year. So, its less than a year. Its the main PC, which is connected to the router/ Xbox. And I use it to watch TV / record with the USB Freeview tuner and Windows MC in Win7. Since the program that the tuner is meant to work with, 2 channels out of the 12 (when you record them). Are out of sync. Avermedia are checking this out (why theyre out of sync). I think the program is buggy / screwed. And because its Win7. Because TV 1 and 2 record fine in MC, and are in sync.

I will probably use it for video editing, when I record something. Since its the only PC with firewire.

The other PC (P4), here is what probably 4 yrs old. The flatmate uses it. And the slower one ( a socket 754) is in the bedroom. Thats just a spare one, doing not a hell of a lot. Cant remember how old it is (only got it going after WT sent the CPU to me). So, it hasnt been going for long
