824812 2009-10-28 00:35:00 Hi guys, I've got a Honda Civic that has just failed the warrant on the back seatbelt (as far as I know its never worked but has always got a warrant). Anyway Ive taken it to a mechanic to get it looked at and he has quoted me 3 to 400 dollars to get it fixed. This seems a little excessive to me but then I dont really know how much it should cost to get fixed.

Does anyone have any ideas if I am being overcharged on this?

Thanks

B.

824813 2009-10-28 00:38:00 What's actually wrong with it? CYaBro (73)
824814 2009-10-28 00:41:00 it just wont come out. Its like its in a locked state. Barnabas (4562)
824815 2009-10-28 00:46:00 Perhaps try another mechanic or two and see who is able to do the job at price that you can afford. convair (13650)
824816 2009-10-28 00:53:00 I can afford the cost....its just whether it should cost that much or am I getting ripped off? If it generally costs that much to repair/replace a seatbelt then thats ok, I dont mind paying it but if Im getting fleeced then I would take it somewhere else. Barnabas (4562)
824817 2009-10-28 00:54:00 It is quite likely it will cost this much to fix. They probably can't use a second hand belt so you may have to pay for a new one. We were told that our rear belt may need replacing if it wore much more (it is never used, it just gets abraded whenever the rear seat is put down) and the cost was going to be a similar amount. user (1404)
824818 2009-10-28 00:55:00 Well if you there is more than one mechanic in your town, then go to someone else and see if they would charge the $400 you have been quoted. convair (13650)
824819 2009-10-28 00:57:00 thanks user....that's what I am looking for. I dont really want to take it anywhere else (just dont have the time) if other peoples experience is that 3 to 4 hundy is a reasonable amount. Barnabas (4562)
824820 2009-10-28 01:02:00 I wouldnt pay that much for them to unbolt a seatbelt and replace it with a new one. I doubt it would take an hour and I reckon the price of replacement seatbelt unit would be around $150. sam m (517)
824821 2009-10-28 01:05:00 Step 1 remove stalk and seat belt
Step 2 Go to wreckers get seat belt
Step 3 Fit seat belt to car
Step 4 Return for wof recheck
