825321 2009-10-29 21:56:00 You will notice it's Abrahamic religions that are far more cruel and intolerant than any others.
I can think of no other religions who have ended up in the senseless killings over the course of history. How sad and ironic.

By which you mean (just for clarity) Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Sadly I agree. However in the West we don't know much about the Eastern religions and oppression which has occurred. Taosim, Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism have not existed peaceably side by side in every place.

825323 2009-10-29 22:11:00 Urrr....Christianity? Especially the whole Moses and boat thing. How is the drowning of basically 99.9999999999% of the entire planet's living things not senseless?

Seriously though, didn't Christians did crusades etc?

The Crusades, the Holocaust, the Spanish Inquisition, Thirty Year War, a hell of a lot of crap with the Jihdas, 9/11, Irish civil war crap, Sudanese civil war, Darfur crisis, Srebrenica massacure, Kosovo.... I could go on forever.

Religion may have given hope to see people, but your bibles, your qurans, they are all stained with blood more than god. And I can't see any supreme entity of any sort who would condone such despicable acts in their name.

Yes I did.

Refer to my last post, there were violent instances, but nothing even close to comparing with what Abrahamic religions have done.
And keep in mind, for a long time Abrahamic religions were a minority, even the 500 years ago, before Africa was converted.

This religious violence of this magnitude simply did not exist before Abrahamic religions particularly Christianity and Islam started getting larger. (I really can't see the Jews being all that bad in this sense.)

825325 2009-10-29 22:22:00 I always remember what my father used to say about wars...."there are only 3 things that men fight over -
land, religion and women"

I think he was right.

Ken
My Dad said don't loan 3 things
Rifle
Chainsaw
Wife

So I don't get in crap for throwing thread off track

Are you a man of peace
Or man of holy war
Too many sides to you
Don't know which any more
So many full of life
But also filled with pain
Don't know just how many
Will live to breathe again

A life that's made to breath
Destruction or defense
A mind that's vain corruption
Bad or good intent
A wolf in a sheep's clothing
Or saintly or sinner
Or someone that would believe
A holy war winner

They fire off many shots
And many parting blows
Their actions beyond a reasoning
Only god would know
And as he lies in heaven
Or it could be in hell
I feel he's somewhere here
Or looking from below
But I don't know, I don't know

Please tell me now what life is
Please tell me now what love is
Well tell me now what war is
Again tell me what life is

More pain and misery in the history of mankind
Sometimes it seems more like the blind leading the blind
It brings upon us more of famine death and war
You know religion has a lot to answer for

Please tell me now what life is
Please tell me now what love is
Well tell me now what war is
Again tell me what life is

And as they search to find the bodies in the sand
They find it's ashes that are scattered across the land
And as their spirits seem to whistle on the wind
A shot is fired somewhere another war begins

And all because of it you'd think that we would learn
But still the body count the city fires burn
Somewhere there's someone dying in a foreign land
Meanwhile the world is crying stupidity of man
Tell me why, tell me why

Please tell me now what life is
Please tell me now what love is
Well tell me now what war is
Again tell me what life is

For the greater good of God

He gave his life for us he fell upon the cross
To die for all of those who never mourn his loss
It wasn't meant for us to feel the pain again
Tell me why, tell me why

825327 2009-10-30 04:15:00 I think you are forgetting the Bible isn't the word of God it is a story ABOUT God and Jesus and therefore is just mans interpretation of what was done or said, whats more every man has his own interpretation of events. The bible and other religious books have been translated so many times how do we even know what they say is accurate. Ever played Chinese whispers as a Kid?

I'm not even a Christian and never will be but even I know that

825328 2009-10-30 06:46:00 I've been quietly witnessing my mum being suckered in by another more mainstream religous group, but one of their strategies is the same as all the others - they dress up their case and call it "The Truth". When they refer to their bible, they call it "The Truth".
By doing this they immediately put spin on any attempt to logically interpret their teachings.

"Gospel" essentially means the same thing - another story being dressed up under the label of "The Truth".

The Christian bible reports Jesus repeatedly using words along the line of "Listen to me, for I tell you the truth". This gets said an awfull lot, and in my opinion, only a liar has to say such a thing so often to try to gain credibility.
Would anyone who is fair and just, and worthly of your trust have to state so often that they are speaking the truth?

If you were a Christian you world probably believe otherwise, None that I know would consider the Bible in the fashion that you do, Quite the opposite, Its considered a Holy book, The word of God, The Gospel.

825330 2009-10-30 08:10:00 The Bible is a holy book of words which are interpreted in various ways to suit various sects in my view. The book has been studied by many a person and also translated over a period of time.

The Bible is also full of contradictions so I guess you can forget logic.
A simple example would be "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" and if we follow that, then logic would dictate if I killed your brother then you would be entitled to kill mine as of right.
