2009-10-29 19:57:00 | And please learn to distinguish the difference between your and you're. x2 Don't overlook the science that goes into motorway signs ... it's easy for the human eye to recognise upper and lower characters; the speed of recognition dramatically suffers when the brain needs to DECIPHER A MESSAGE DELIVERED IN CAPITALS. Speed of recognition decreases further when one has to decipher non-standard abbreviations invented at the whim of the texter. And at 100 kph comprehension must not be compromised.

Speed of recognition decreases further when one has to decipher non-standard abbreviations invented at the whim of the texter. And at 100 kph comprehension must not be compromised. Add to that the fact that even at a great distance, you can easily make out motorway signs in their at over 50m, and even at that distance the letters will appear far larger than the screen of your phone 30cm away. As it will be in your field of view. And you won't have to shift focus from the road. |

2009-10-29 21:23:00 | I used to be able to roll a smoke while steering a heavy truck with my knees at 80kph on the Auckland motorway between Otahuhu and the city at 7.30 in the morning. I hear..."What is that you say Ken? 80kph at 7.30am on the motorway?" Aaah, those were the days. Not a lot of traffic in the late 60's ;);) I know you can still do the same in 2009, but only because the traffic is logjammed around that time. Apart from that. I just about got wiped out yesterday on my school minivan driving job by some useless turd of a woman who was on her phone and pulling out into traffic by a school crossing after picking up her kids. I had 11 on board, she had 3 and there were a dozen or so kids waiting at the crossing. A potential accident list of 26 souls. I have been doing this job for 2 years now and am getting quite used to the antics of the tossers that try to drive and talk on their phone at the same time. Never ceases to amaze me though! Ken

2009-10-29 21:30:00 | I firmly believe the most dangerous place on the planet is near schools at 9 and 3. Not the kids, their parent with a minimal attention span and a delusion of omnipotence. | R2x1 (4628) | |
2009-10-29 22:14:00 | +1 for those thoughts. Almost got wiped out two days in a row now (Today and yesterday) riding to work by parents dropping their kids off and then hauling ass outta there, pulling out without looking and seeing an incoming motorbike. If it happens tomorrow I'm gonna punch a window in...

2009-10-29 22:21:00 | When I rode a bike and someone passed to close I used to hit the back of the passing car with my hand. Didn't damage the car or hurt me, but it sure gave the drivers a hell of a fright. | wratterus (105) | |
