1115360 2010-07-02 10:57:00 zone alarm is a firewall not an AV. if you just have the Zone Alarm Firewall beside avast or MSE you should be fine As others have mentioned it can have a AV, and most of the time people use default setting when installing which just happens to include the AV+ Firewall.

Seen it plenty of times, so I think I can quite happily know from experience. There is the option to not install the AV, but most people simply click next, next and agree to anything asked.

Just to give an example of how useless it is -- A person who I sold a Nod32 Antivirus to today, (they had a 3 month trial) -- used to have ZA AV+ Firewall, infections killed it, when I ripped out what was left of ZA and installed nod32, it went nuts finding active infections.

1115363 2010-07-02 11:07:00 then what firewall am i meant to use. comodo is to annoying, too many popups goodiesguy (15316)
1115364 2010-07-02 11:14:00 Thats why theyre called firewalls. If it didnt ask then you wouldnt know what to block Speedy Gonzales (78)
1115365 2010-07-02 11:16:00 If a firewall is set up correctly, then it will pop up warnings. Sometimes its because people dont know how to actually adjust them they get lots of pop ups.

Take for example-- If you have a program pop up asking for permission to do something, and you allow it, AND tell the firewall to remember the option, then it wont bother you again until it changes (upgrades). Many times a pop up will appear, the person allows or denies it, and that's it, but its only half set.

Different firewalls have different settings to adjust them.

When I used to use Comodo, before they started having problems with it, once set I'd be Lucky if I got 1 pop up a month. Normally none, only when something new was trying to come in (and that can vary).
