| 1115074 | 2010-07-02 03:40:00 | I just finished GTA4 last week and I noticed in places the framerate would drop below 30fps, my specs are: i7 930 @ 4.2 Ghz (quad core with hyperthreading) 5870 1GB @ 950Mhz Core 5Ghz memory 12GB ram triple channel @ 1600Mhz running max detail and draw distance at 50 I have eyfinity but trying to run the game at 5670x1080 is not that great so I played through with just one screen, so just keep in mind that no matter what you get, GTA4 performance is dissapointing. |

| 1115075 | 2010-07-02 05:23:00 | After overclocking my CPU to 3.33GHz (I had to underclock the memory, and no change in voltage, with my CPU running at about 40 degrees normal, and 53 under load), I performed some more tests (also updated my graphics drivers). GTA IV was averaging 26 fps according to Fraps, but keeps stuttering and dropping to 10 every couple of seconds, on 1280 * 1024 resolution, while Just Cause 2, on 1920 * 1080, on high settings, ran at 29 fps average, dropping to 24 every once in a while. I find GTA IV unplayable with this stuttering, and the performance is pretty inexcusable. So I'll be contacting Steam and asking for a refund, or some damn good tech support that fixes the problem. Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it, and it has solved one of my problems (Just Cause 2 was running at 19 fps before) - so I can play games at full HD :D. Once again, thanks, especially to SolMeister :thanks |

So I'll be contacting Steam and asking for a refund, or some damn good tech support that fixes the problem. I think the main problem is it is not really playable on anything less than a quad core, I played quite a bit on my last system which was 3.4Ghz Q6600, 8GB ram and a 4870, I had to drop most stuff down and there are still places where the framerate would tank but the game is still immensly enjoyable, there are some truely epic missions, and if you can get it running at a tolerable framerate, even with the details at medium to low (I was playing with a draw distance of 10 on my 4870, make sure you turn shadow detail on medium too) it is still well worth it IMO. From memory there is one setting that has the biggest dent on performance but I can't remember what it is. |
