| 1114956 | 2010-07-01 05:12:00 | Hello . Whats the deal with xtra and yahoo? I don't use xtra but my folks do . They're not very savvy so contact me whenever something not the 100% norm occurs, ie an email is received with a load of code at the beginning, or a message saying that the yahoo virus scan was not operational . So I thought that as they were overseas recently they set up a yahoo account (they use Outlook at home) to check for mail, but this doesn't seem to be the case . So is all xtra mail handled by yahoo now? ie virus scanned and stored on yahoo before being downloaded by Outlook? And where is junk mail stored- is it downloaded by outlook or kept at yahoo? This could be a long reply but I'd like to understand how it all works if someone could point me in the right direction . thanks |

| 1114958 | 2010-07-01 10:16:00 | If anyone has been using Outlook or Thunderbird etc to access xtra email accounts since before the deal with yahoo, they have been prevented from using a browser UNLESS they separately sign up with yahoo. I wanted to see my spam folder but was confronted with a EULA which I considered unacceptable. For instance, if you upload a photo, you give yahoo the right to use that photo for their own purposes in perpetuity!! Now it may be that they are just trying to cover themselves in case someone claims that the picture of their naked mistress is leaked, but I found it wrong. The result is that I can only use a mail client (Thunderbird in my case) Just one more reason to switch to Gmail. |
