825089 2009-10-29 01:43:00 Many years ago I got a new computer with that Vista thing. didn't take too long to get rid of vista, that new uncustomizable windows explorer, the lack of compatablility to all those games that worked perfectly on XP and what was with all that disk activity!! microsoft systems should stop trying to predict what I want to do and just do what I want it to do.

But anyway, Is windows 7 an improvment, can i play my collection of games and apps that failed on Vista, will i still be able to utilise the capacity of the computer for the applications I use or watch most of it get sucked up into the operating system, can I customize the window file expolorer tool bar? seriously, a dedicated "Burn" button. actually, i just hated vista!! was like Window ME (major excrement)

I like XP, it works. I would love to upgrade to a new "Improved" OS but after Vista, I am somewhat reticent about it all.

825090 2009-10-29 01:50:00 anything that 'worked' in vista should/will work in W7.

did you try any of the beta releases, that would have given you a feel for the new OS and whether you would upgrade.

what are the specs of your pc?

and what apps etc 'failed'?

825091 2009-10-29 02:03:00 Well I hate Vista, did from the start but still dual booted it from time to time up until recently.

Winn7 feels a lot less bloated and more responsive in general especially with network related work. I have Win7 on my rig now as the only OS. You may still face compatibility issues with Windows 7 and old apps even with the compatibility mode.

You would have thought MS would have learned from cluster fudge that was Windows ME, how users hated the slow bloated feel and how it was dumbed down, and yet we still ended up with Vista years later.

825096 2009-10-30 19:40:00 XP was good was back in the day. Vista was a big improvement and hopefully 7 will be better still. Just went for Ultimate at $180, took a while to find someone with a student ID. Twelvevolts (5457)
