1116207 2010-07-05 09:08:00 Just recently I have noticed my folders I had created in the Inbox in Outlook Express have gone missing.
I had created these folders by creating a mail rule via message rules from the Tools button. I had a Power Bill folder for electric bills and Phone Bill for the phone bill etc..
It has worked just fine for ages but the folders have disappeared and all the paid and unpaid bills with them. The thing I can't understand is the message rules are still there but with there specified folders are missing.
Has this got something to do with the compacting action Outlook Express does.
Have my e-mails gone permanently and can they be put back.

Cheers John.

1116208 2010-07-05 09:19:00 How much mail do you have in Outlook Express -- it does have a limit. ? IF you have exceeded the limit or come close to it, it will corrupt and folders can not show.

To check the folders open Outlook Express Tools /Options - maintenance Tab - Click On Store Folder Button, Highlight / Copy the complete path As shown here (www.imagef1.net.nz) - close Outlook Express, click start/run - Paste in the store folder location - press OK.

There will be all the folders in .dbx format, are the ones you want there ?

While there, right click in a blank part of the folder/ properties - How much space is TOTALLY used for the all mail folders ?

1116209 2010-07-05 09:52:00 I can't help but it does seem strange that you seem to missing only the folders created by the rules you have setup. Are any other folders affected? Sweep (90)

1116211 2010-07-05 10:21:00 OK, thats a good start -- Outlook express has a upper limit of 2GB total, (2048MB).

Normally if I were doing this as a job, I would use recoverytoolbox (www.recoverytoolbox.com) -- Its software that I purchased for this type of thing, recovering customers corrupted data. It extracts the mails out of the .dbx files. You could then make new folders and transfer them back.

I think the trial version allows you to look and see if the mail can be recovered, then if so it costs to get the License to allow the actual recovery.

Personally I have tried many and this one does work well -- Ask Wratterus (another forum member) he brought it as well.

I dont know of any free ones that actually work.
