It probably originated in the UK but I can't be 100% sure of that. I think I got it from the estate of a friend who emigrated from London to NZ in the late 1960s. I have Googled the motto extensively but without success, so I'm hopeful somebody here will recognise it. The photo has been flipped in Irfanview so that you can read the motto easier. It is a brass disk with a black handle and was clearly intended for use with sealing wax rather than an ink pad. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

However, to be incorporated in a seal, plus the use of the Jester emblem (definitely not appropriate for a school) suggests to me that it was used more formally than that, which is why it has piqued my interest. Looks like a fairly standard brass monogram-type seal which used to be readily available, made to order with your own motto or initials, in Britain long after the second world war. From memory they were not that expensive to have made. A bit like the leather-impression punches you can still buy from some craft shops. Further... a Google shows that similar are still available.... www.pixmania.co.uk or www.pixmania.co.uk |

Seriously its probably either a public school old boys crest, masonic, or some non-catholic christian group "self not others", is from the Bible isn't it?? |
