1116425 2010-07-07 06:37:00 bevy121 that is incorrect. Can't believe I'm repeating myself, given that your own post provides enough clues. PowerDVD is simply working in tandem with the firmwares region locking, hence why re-installation of the software has no effect on region count. jackM (14814)
1116426 2010-07-07 07:58:00 If you don't like VLC give media player classic a go it's free too and just as good gary67 (56)
1116427 2010-07-07 08:40:00 If you don't like VLC give media player classic a go it's free too and just as good In several ways Media Player Classic is actually better. wainuitech (129)
1116428 2010-07-07 09:05:00 Yes I use a mixture of both depending on what computer is hooked up at the time, I'm still learning how to to drive MPC but so far I like it over VLC gary67 (56)
1116429 2010-07-07 11:08:00 One feature I use on just about every DVD / video I play on MPC is to alter the picture size, when playing movies its a pain seeing the Black strip (www.imagef1.net.nz) along the top and bottom -- Alter the aspect ratio All Gone (www.imagef1.net.nz) this is done by using the numeric keys on the keyboard, 8 increases width, 2 reduces , 4 & 6 widens/ Decrease, etc. You have to be careful, as it can make the people/ Things look "out of shape" if you go to silly, as shown in those pictures, (done on purpose) wainuitech (129)
1116430 2010-07-07 19:45:00 That's handy to know since we use an old computer hooked up to our CRT TV no flat screen TV here gary67 (56)

thanks wainuitech and gary67...will check out media player classic tonight....

@jackM and bevy121....tried to follow the dvd genie stuff and failed....still i managed to set the region count on the player to expire on region four....guess i will use powerdvd for all region 4 dvds and vlc/media player classic for the rest....thanks once again everyone....i am enjoying learning about this...

1116432 2010-07-08 02:44:00 DVD43 is also an option. It does insert itself into the start-up though, but easily disabled in MSConfig.

1116433 2010-07-08 10:53:00 It took so long for someone to mention DVD43, a fantastic piece of software that does away with the ridiculous region coding forced upon us.

IMO its better to let it stay in your start-up list, that way it sits between your drive and the firmware at all times and you don't need to remember it.

Think it only works on XP..nice to know whats out there for Win7
