| 827441 | 2009-11-06 04:48:00 | I would say linux but it has to be windows just because its easier straight out of the box, supports leading games and windows 7 kicks a**. If linux picked up game support id be there permanently in a second Fair assumption. Should I feel the urge to get my ass kicked, I will switch to Windoze. ;) Until then, I will stay with the real thing. :banana Winderz is definitely simpler out of the box, but that turns to snake filled custard shortly after it hits the optical drive and starts spinning. :D |

| 827442 | 2009-11-06 04:56:00 | Windows for the games I can't play in Linux (suprisingly few of the ones I play), Linux for everything else. Preferred OS = Linux. Erayd - what type of ipod? I had a nano 4th Gen - gtkpod + an updated libgpod synched it perfectly from within linux. No need for itunes :D |

Good luck with getting that to sync under Linux - libgpod et al will ruin the database on recent versions of the iPhone OS. At this point, sadly, the only thing it will sync with is iTunes. Thankfully I don't use it for music - I have an 80GB 5.5G iPod video running RockBox (http://rockbox.org) for that - and being rockbox, it can take care of the database itself and doesn't need to sync with anything, you can just treat it like any other removable drive, and it'll keep track of any music I happen to drop on it. |

| 827445 | 2009-11-06 07:59:00 | I feel the same way...I do prefer Windows for normal usage, since I am most familiar with it, but for a cheap fileserver you just can't beat Linux:D Digby: Why do you say linux has no future? IIRC around 15% of the worlds web servers are running linux, and its growing at quite a rapid rate too.. Linux may not be the best for the consumer, but it certainly has many applications(not just as a desktop PC!!) Blam Sorry but its much much higher than that. Near 50% of the worlds web-servers are Apache and the majority of those would run Linux. |

PHP has a massive user-base, and well under 1% would be running it under IIS. With mod_mono, the Apache and Linux will get even more customers over the next few years because of this. Everything is Unix based these days. Don't forget Android (google phone)runs a Linux kernel, as does Chrome OS. Hell, Google's entire operation is Linux based, and that says it all. |

No but, PressF1 seems to be running on a Linux server. We were talking about usage of servers. Domestic use is probably 5%ish at best. But that doesn't change the fact that almost everything you most likely view online is running on a Linux server. |

| 827449 | 2009-11-06 09:04:00 | IIRC around 15% of the worlds web servers are running linux, and its growing at quite a rapid rate too.. Yeah more like 60% at least. Most of the world's top 500 supercomputers run Linux too. I think one runs Windows last time I looked and the rest are some form of Unix. I voted Linux. I've been using Ubuntu for the past 3 years I think, but I'm going to switch to openSUSE when 11.2 is released just to learn something new. I find I don't need Windows for anything. I play a couple of games using Wine occasionally and a few other native Linux games and that's enough for me. I'm much more efficient at getting work done on Linux and it suits the way I like to work. I've installed Ubuntu for my parents and sister because one computer didn't come with a Windows license and the other kept slowing down and I didn't want to have to keep maintaining it. They're pretty happy with it too. Erayd's brain should be a repository so I can apt-get install mad-linux-skillz. :D Haha, I liked that one. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:erayd HTTP Error 404: Not Found :( |
