826909 2009-11-03 21:23:00 I have been downloading the openSuse 11.2 RC2 DVD since 6am.
I just went out for a smoke and I come to find that it's at 0.8%. It had all of 10 mins remaining.

Now not only have I lost 4 hours of my life waiting for it, but also ~4gb of my monthly bandwidth too.

Downloading the LiveCD now instead.

826913 2009-11-03 21:39:00 If that's the worst thing that ever happens in your life, then consider yourself very lucky.
Just imagine if you ever have to untangle twisted Christmas tree lights. :D:rolleyes:

826916 2009-11-03 23:25:00 What were you downloading it with / from?

If you were using something like IE lame download manager from a website..

I would

1) scan the hard drive and try to recover the file (doesn't matter if it's not finished)
2) download the torrent for the same file and load it up
3) replace the non-downloaded file with the corrupt file you recovered
4) force hash re-check in the torrent which should find most of the missing data
5) finish your download that way

(I have done this several times actually)

It may not be incredibly fast to finish but I guarantee you it will make you feel much happier

That is a brilliant idea!
But I am not sure it would work in my case, since Opera started downloading the file again, I am guessing it would have been overwritten.

I was downloading with Opera from some aussie mirror. So this reinforces my notions that aussies are useless! :p

826918 2009-11-04 00:01:00 That is why you need a file recovery program (I use filescavenger)

There is something called Recuva (made by the same guys who so CCleaner I think)

That might also work

Either way it would probably not be completely overwritten, and still save you downloading quite a bit..
